39.3 > 8 --- Who can help?

On July 16th,2012 I asked, "What step towards employment can I take this week that will best align me with my truest Dao?" (connoting Tao/Destiny/greatest good for all)

I received Hexagram 39.3 > 8

Before I asked the question, my plan for the week was to complete the process of accepting a job offer which would involve a move to a different state. I was also interviewing for a temporary local job to give me the option of making some much needed money right away while I prepare for the move. The reading gave me pause. 39.3 "Going on limping; coming back, turnaround." (Barrett) I have been quite confused. Was going on with my plan ill advised? Or was only part of the plan ill advised, e.g., I should be putting all of my energy into finalizing the job offer without complicating things with a more immediate month long job?

When I saw hexagram 39 I wanted to come to this forum for help with discernment. But I set about to complete the process of accepting the offer of the job that would move me to a different state. As it happens, that is going to be a complicated and lengthy process which I have only just begun. Partly because I became distracted by other things that presented themselves to be done, e.g., helping a friend prepare emotionally for a colonoscopy, visiting my mom who is in rehab, etc. And then even MORE opportunities began presenting themselves as to how to proceed. And here it is nearly the end of the week! (And I haven't even completed Lesson 2 of Hilary's course though I keep working on the question of the question.)

Anyway, Hexagram 39 says "Fruitful in the southwest" which I understand from the "Word of Change" resource to mean to seek allies instead of to continue lonely striving. And so here I am ... posting to the Shared Readings forum.

The question of the question

Since you had two different employments in mind as you were casting, it becomes hard to interpret Yi's response.

"To proceed would lead to trouble. Therefore turn back." The line presages happiness for those within the household, not for those who advance.

It seems to be a warning against going for the month-long job, but you would need to ask separate questions for each of the plans you are trying to make.

Hey cc - this line suggests step back, slow down and when you are calm again the answer will present itself. As Ginnie said it might be a lot better if you ask a separate question for each situation. - Liss

Thank you, Ginnie and goddessliss. I did not opt for the one month job. (As it happens, they did not opt for me either.) And I have slowed down and am feeling calmer.

Another interpretation, or maybe not a different but one but one which may include the relativity of the Fan Yao of 8.3. I realize that it isn't direct inclusion within your reading, however this Fan Tao may serve to clarify the nature of what exactly is the opposing force with 39.3: incompatible people or company; it's as though they would not be helpful to your Dao or finding a happy career path.

But if you come (to yourself) rather than go out, as I interpret it, you'll be welcomed by your own people; meaning, you will be at home in your own skin, and working in a field that is compatible with your Dao. But it's rare to hear of anyone's path which was as simple as choosing which job to take or which road to take - sometimes there are several potentials which present themselves, then sometimes all opportunity seems to completely dry up.

It's my belief, that if you are true to your Dao, the opportunities will present themselves when you are ready to you, and possibly not just you but Ti Ming. Arrive on time (from 8). If you're at the right place, in the right state of mind, and at the right time, not even ten pairs of tortoises can oppose you.

Line 4 is you. Line 1 may be the job.
There is a person in line 4 and also line 3.
You do not trust this person.
Line 3 person push for changes and you if proceed, will suffer financial loss.
Hexagram 8: lower trigram kun (earth) suppresses the upper trigram kan (water).

This means that any discussion about money may not be real and immediate. At least Aug/Sept..

Your interpretations interests me, but I am not sure that I understand it completely. Can you tell us more about this method you are using> I also am not sure what you mean when you say "any discussion about money may not be real and immediate. At lease Aug/Sept." Please say more about that.

There are several ways to analyse an Iching reading.
1. Just understand the story of the hexagram and lines. It ignores the effect of time, the humans and events inside the picture.
2. Using the trigrams to piece together an explanation of events.
3. Using the interaction of six line character, its relationship to 5 elements, and the season to explain the situation.
4. Combine with 3, use the time (year/day/hour/min) of the reading to analyze the outcome of events.

Non-Chinese speakers and most Chinese do not know the 6 line method. I learned this myself by reading a lot of old Chinese literature and analyzing over 600 readings to learn.

Chinese Iching Masters do not teach six line method to non-Chinese because one has to know a lot of Chinese to learn the method. A good knowledge of 4 pillar/8 letter method to analyze birthday is required as the basic skills.

The money line is empty under the month until next Feb (after Feb 6). Be careful with money. If someone promises you anything about money and ask you for money, think twice.
