4.3 > 18 when tired and out of sorts??

Hi, I'm curious as to why I've received this cast twice recently: once when I just complained to Yi (admittedly it wasn't even a question) about the fact that I felt tired, run down and out of sorts. Then I received it again today feeling equally out of sorts but asking whether I even had time to do the work I am supposed to do for work tomorrow.

I didn't understand why the image was of a young girl throwing herself away.

As I write this though I'm wondering... is it referring to the fact that I'm doing too much at work, 'throwing myself away' and undervaluing myself -which is making me feel wretched and out of sorts.

Would that seem to make sense? Anyone? :)

H4 carries the general meaning of inexperience or the image of asking a question over and over in a troublesome way without listening to the what is being taught. You said that you were complaining about being out of sorts and then about not being able to finish a project. Water below and mountain above could be the picture of emotional stubbornness. Line three is imbalance in the emotional qualities. It is saying to get them under better control, so that they serve you instead of knock you off course.

Perhaps instead of complaining to the I Ching, which is a bit like the inexperienced whining child spoken of in the text, you could try asking how you can better approach your situation. in other words, try a more constructive and purposeful approach.

Best wishes

Thanks! That makes complete sense - if I hadn't been in such a whiny fug I might have seen that for myself! (And I got all my work done in the end!!) :)

I think it may be saying that the cause of your feeling out of sorts is pressure on yourself due to believing being productive and successful and all that stuff is of such importance you'd throw yourself away for it, maybe even neglect yourself for it. Don't put pressure on yourself through worshipping false gods.

Yes there's an element of that I think - although the work in these specific instances was not very high powered or god-like, but just a few too many things that had landed on my plate, too little sleep and not really looking after myself either. However, it could be said that there's an imbalance of energy.

Is there a bit of marrying maiden about this line?

Actually, just to add to Trojina's insight, I think yes - in my new job I am relatively junior (comparative both to colleagues and my experience) and still on a temporary contract which I'm hoping will become permanent and better paid. I've really been burning the candle at both ends since I've wanted to do a good job - but now think (and also based on some other readings) that the yi is telling me to stop behaving so much like a junior member of staff, trying to impress, and just hold back a bit.
