I've been in stand still for a while in my life. Waiting for situations to improve in my marriage, as we both work through some things. Homeschooling my son. Wanting to start a business or community project but being shut down. All readings have been coming back that it's not time to act but time to allow things to flow, to decrease, etc etc.

But I have so much creative energy that it needs an outlet or it leads to frustration and overthinking. I started writing something new last night. A potential book and it's flowing out of me. I asked Yi if this is a worthwhile endeavour and way to spend my time, not wanting this to be another way to distract myself from the frustration and I got this response.

I think it is positive but not sure if it is advising me to find another way to express myself.

I also get brightness hiding a lot in my readings. The first time I got it, it reminded me of how I felt as a child growing up in a painfully abusive environment and how I learned to hide my light to protect myself. Who are you when no one is watching evokes such emotion in me, as I genuinely do not know the answer to that question. I've never done things for myself. I've only ever done them if I think they can benefit another person through acts of service.

So I'm not sure how to read that as a relating hexagram other than to recognise that perhaps this is a time for me to explore my deeper nature.

Thank you in advance for sharing your insights

Good day Toodles.

In this reading you see 36 as your past, brightness hiding.

I found a good write up on 49.4.5>36 on an Italian forum, but it isn't difficult to change to English.

Here is a quote:
"The 49 - Muda is the hexagram that represents the physiological process to which certain animals, such as the snake, undergo cyclically to shed their skin. These animals are forced to do this because their epidermis is not elastic and does not regenerate. When "what they wear" becomes tight on their body, they change it like a dress that is too old to be used anymore. However, this process follows precise laws. The degrees of this change must be addressed in the right times and with the right conditions so that it does not become a danger for the animal itself. Who could find himself defenseless and lose his life. "

49.4 - a good change is here. Writing, you get to know yourself deeper. Trust this change.

49.5 - the tiger changes and shifts, camouflaging in the forest. But when she emerges she will be unmistakable. The same stripes that hide her in the shadowy forest make her gleam so bright in the sunlight.

Some part of you is hiding now, perhaps conditions are unfavorable. Your marriage is on standby and your projects don't seem to work out. Maybe they sense your inner tiger is hiding.

And writing, a great way to quietly track the great beast. It doesn't matter how well it succeeds - does it feed that inner part of you that learned to hide so young?

A quicker way to say all this: if you are a snake shedding it's skin, hiding away for a bit is not only good but necessary. Dealing with old painful emotions from childhood, you may be sensitive. And if writing is a safe place to burrow for now while the external world is frustrating, how wonderful!

I don't know where to go with this, but Prince Ji in 36 was hiding his brightness until the regime changed, and 49 is regime change.

If you take the reading literally and in isolation, it seems really encouraging. The questions I have are what do you think the regime change is, what tense is the reading in (present, future), and how does it connect to the other ones as a conversation?

49.5 says you already know the answer before you cast. Is that because writing is the thing you actually can do in amongst everything else, where your other ideas wouldn't have been? Then writing might be the regime change away from your other ideas.

Or could 49.5 be more like, "We've already been through this, now isn't the time"?

But if the stakes are pretty low (if you can put it down if it doesn't work), then maybe no harm in trying.

Hi Toodles

But I have so much creative energy that it needs an outlet or it leads to frustration and overthinking. I started writing something new last night. A potential book and it's flowing out of me. I asked Yi if this is a worthwhile endeavour and way to spend my time, not wanting this to be another way to distract myself from the frustration and I got this response.

49: 4.5 <> 36
'Abolishing the Old' through 'Brilliance Injured'

36 carries with it a deep sense of feeling an outcast (not included), and your views on whether writing is a worthwhile endeavour seem to be shrouded in and coloured by the hardships you have faced in your life. 49 speaks to the opportunities that now exist for you to release the past sorrows and the internal conflicts that still remain with you. It is important to do what is right for you in this new time.

49 is powered by the energies of 44 which has been slowly and gradually manoeuvring you towards meeting this dilemma you now have. It is the right time to meet your trepidations in order that you can put some space between your past and you in the now. The marriage to your past is no longer something to promote.

49.4 - The right road for you lies in the direction of truth and the choices that you make.

49.5 - 'Change like a tiger' - embrace the revolution. Rigorously unearth and follow new ways to more readily marry that which is charging into your world so that there is a better alignment with your deeper beliefs. Then trust that this will truly light the way for you in a new, positive direction.

... of course there may be other interpretations that resonate with you more.

Good Luck

Thank you, this is a tough one to answer for myself as I have already questioned if I have space / time to do this - I meet a local writing group every two weeks to share a piece of my writing. Which meets my needs for socialisation and as a creative outlet

But realised that what I was writing about originally (childrens books, novels) was making me think too much about how it will be received by the reader and that changing my writing to something unfolding in my experience felt easier to manage
