We moved to Africa towards the end of last year and will stay for 3 or 4 years. My employer pays for my accommodation abroad but wants me to keep a residence in my country of origin. Rents near my company‘s HQ are ridiculous. Hence I started looking in the surrounding countryside. I found a charming place which ticks many of my boxes with one exception: It is around one hour‘s drive from my HQ. Since I only will stay in this flat twice a year for a couple of weeks each time, this will only be a minor inconvenience. Still… I am not 100% sure.
Thus, I asked the I Ching the following question: what of I rent the flat in xyz?
Answer: 50.2.4 to 52

Admittedly, I am befuddled. The cauldron as such is auspicious and marks a new beginning, which sounds good to me. Likewise changing line 2 seems to indicate success and a „go ahead“. But then line 4: the legs of the cauldron break off. The prince‘s meal is spilled (Arrrggghh the flat in question is located in the grounds of a prince‘s estate- I kid you not,) Misfortune. And the corresponding 52 Stilling does not make sense to me either.
Please, help me with the interpretation. I need to come to a decision soon. Thank you!

Initially this flat (the cauldron) will make you the envy of your associates (.2), but the distance (indicated by the broken legs) is actually going to be a serious problem. The cauldron is going to stop movement (52 Keeping Still).

So don't do it.

That is confusing. Opinions about line 4's broken leg differ: either it's a hidden flaw, one you don't know about till you start using it (Hilary), or you know it's not right but use it anyway, hoping you'll be lucky and get away with it (Bradford Hatcher).

What could any of that mean in real life? The only think I can think of off the bat is, does the estate know you won't be living there routinely? Any reason they might object to that?

Does the company particularly care where you live or are they just needing to check off some requirement that you could get around. Is it possible you could rent the flat (50,2) but never live there (50.4). Keep it totally still (52) ?
When you come for your visits you could rent a place near HQ or stay in a motel.

Thank you so much for your responses. They uncanningly ring true... A bit more background information: Yes, the estate knows that I would be there only very part-time. Besides, the distance there are two flaws but they are not hidden: i) The ceilings are very low (old cottage-style building beautifully restored), ii) no pets allowed (however, our dog resides in Africa and does not accompany us on short trips). Since the estate manager lives on site, he can keep an eye on things, which is a huge advantage. The primary objective of the flat would be to keep personal items safe, have an address in-country and a shelter for occasional visits. If indeed, I had back-to-back meetings at HQ, my son and I could resort to a couple of nights at a hotel.
Yet still something is causing a certain hesitation. Any further comments would be much appreciated.

Well, there's something else you feel is wrong the flat that you haven't quite said yet... something perhaps you feel in the back of your mind but that hasn't been put into words. It might be your intuition that feels something hidden that would not work out.

Maybe you think it's too good to be true? Maybe management wouldn't like that you found this particular location, being as far as it is from HQ? Maybe you want to check out more properties first? Maybe you feel like the whole thing is a waste of money, and you think there might be a way around it? Only you can really answer .

Well, I feel the Iching is playing games with me. Today I asked „please give me further insight regarding the flat in xyz“ and I received 60 1.2.5.6 to 23. First time ever I received 4 changing lines, I think. And just as or even more confusing than the first reading as the changing lines seem to contradict each other.

The contradictions are mirroring the contradictions in your own mind. Part of you knows it's the wrong property, but you're not quite willing to let go.

I think it's pretty clear, though. The limitations of this place (60) make it a dead end (23). Go no further...
