Hello,
About 8 weeks ago I was exposed to high sound at a party I was attending. The day after I got a high tone pulsating sound in my ear that does not stop. My ears was probably damaged and I got tinnitus?
I asked the Iching “what to do about the sounds in my ear” and receives “the Vessel”hexagram 50.3.4 moving to hexagram 4 “Not knowing”.

Would anyone please help me understand what to do. I am trying to understand what my actions should be as the question is about what to do.

Is line 3 saying I should rest my ears? or stop worrying as that is making it worse?
And line 4 that I have to continue to be very careful with my ears? Or that it’s something I am doing that I need to change?

Very grateful if someone could help to translate

Line 3
'The vessel's ears are radically changed,
Its action blocked.
Rich pheasant fat goes uneaten.
Rain on all sides lessens regrets,
In the end, good fortune.'

Line 4
'The vessel's legs break off,
The prince's stew is upset,
Dignity soiled.
Pitfall.'

The Vessel seems like it would be your hearing, doesn't it? 4 as you say is Not Knowing - but it's also about learning from experience, trying things, finding out.

The lines might be alternatives. Line 3 is much better news than line 4. You need to eat the pheasant fat and make some rain fall - in this case I suspect that means see a doctor. And do it now, because line 4 is what might happen if you don't. Maybe find a specialist if you can, but at least see your G.P.

If they're alternatives, Yi's telling you you can still improve this, but you're on the cusp of not being able to (lines 3 and 4 are transition lines, between the two trigrams).

A more dire interpretation is that the lines are a story and you've already progressed from 50.3 to 50.4. I don't know how to tell which it is. I hope it's the alternatives.

I don't know anything about hearing, though. But if it was my "what to do" question that's how I'd see it.

Oh - another thought based on you wondering if you should rest your ears - maybe! Reason is that hexagram 4 is also, literally, a covering. Read this blog post of Hilary's, and get yourself some good earplugs and make sure you can insert them properly. Or aren't there such things as noise-cancelling headphones? Not sure, but I know there are earplugs. (But still see a doctor!)

Hilary's article:

A couple of quotes from it:
Soon, it forms a tangled mass of fine, twisting stems that covers the host plants.
Richard Sears also says that the original meaning of ‘meng’ was a kind of plant; the character consists of ‘cover’ with an animal beneath it, and the plant radical. A ‘covering plant’.

Hi Liselle and thank you for the reply,
I have now booked an appointment with the GP and I also contacted the hearing specialists at the hospital. As soon as I get the referral from my GP I can book an appointment with them for more in depth examinations. Also bought a pair of noice-cancelling headphones 👍
I will let you know how it all develops. Thank you for nudging me in the right direction.

Some months have passed and I thought I give an update. As mentioned earlier I met with the GP who referred me to an ear specialist. I am still waiting for an appointment to see the specialist. Very long waiting time where I live. While waiting I started seeing a Chinese medicine doctor who has given me acupuncture for some months now. The sound is still there but the intensity of the sound is less. In other words it’s getting better
