Hi everyone,
Being new to the board it is so interesting (and helpful) to see how limited and literal some of my interpretations of the hexagrams have been. For example, today I drew #51.2.4.5 changing to 60 when asking how is an overnight road trip that my husband and I are scheduled to take tomorrow going to effect my heatlh? (As I've mentioned recently, I am dealing with an equilibrium related condtion that is very challenging for me). It probably sounds like a small thing to ask...whether to take an overnight trip...and maybe it is...But I have spent the last year dealing with deep shock and greif around my father's sudden transition, and some might say that I have not been very engaged in life...I go to work and spend time with my husband and our dog...and a few friends but my life and routine have been very small as compared to what they were before events in the past two years...I suppose this trip represents an attempt to re-engage a bit, visiting friends 5 hours away in the mountains...I feel (and have been told) that I need to make some effort to do small things to be more "in life." I'm just not sure I'm feelin' this little trip and it is hard to tell if it just my habitual pattern of the past year or if it perhaps just not appropriate for me right now.
My intention toward, though admittedly tentative to emerge from shock and greif is there, too...I also feel fragile around this health condtion and this trip just feels kind of labored.
So, I have thought that 51 was predictive of some not-so-good occurrence to come, but I am being educated by this board that that is probably a way oversimplified interpretation...
I also asked "what should I consider in deciding whether to go to Paonia tomorrow" and received #53.3 changing to 20.
If in any way the Yi is telling me that this trip is not such a good idea, I will consider postponing or cancelling it...
Any thoughts?

I do not ever believe in forcing things of this nature, and so I may be projecting my own way into your reading, because I see the reading as saying the same thing. When you are ready for such a trip, you will intuitively know.

That said, it's questionable just who this robber in line 3 is, who needs to be fought off. Is it your fear which robs you? If so, chances are you wouldn't enjoy the trip anyway.

If it were me, I'd wait until I felt ready for such a trip. But I'd also not lose sight of making a conscious effort to become ready, gradually.

Thank you, Bruce. So, you think 51 in this case is saying something about my either not being ready or being able to intuit when I am?
The robber could either be fear or this condition which I have said before I feel is "robbing" me of the enjoyment of some basic things...
Now, of course I have even less time to decide and friends who would be quite dissappointed if we cancelled.
We'll see...

"For example, today I drew #51.2.4.5 changing to 60 when asking how is an overnight road trip that my husband and I are scheduled to take tomorrow going to effect my health?"

Hex 51.2 suggest that your health has already being shook up by your illness and that given time (7 months) you will regain your full health but in the meantime it is okay to go climbing mountains.

Hex 51.4 the illness has really rocked your boat but don't let it dominate your life otherwise you will be forever crippled by it. So get up and rock and roll, fight back.

Hex 51.5 this says that you are feeling depressed by it all but you must learn to live with it, so don't worry go on your trip, accept whatever challenges lie ahead, give it a try because you having nothing to lose.

Hex 60 is about placing too severe limitations on yourself, your mind is saying I 'oh, can't do this or that', but you won't know unless you break free of those self imposed limitations and give the trip a try. Your health is already affected but going on a small trip is much like winning a victory for you. Like I said before, if you let the illness dominate you then it will turn you into an invalid.

"I also asked "what should I consider in deciding whether to go to Paonia tomorrow" and received #53.3 changing to 20."

Hex 53.3 you basically fear that by going to Paonia you will lose the support that your home environment provides you with. You are also fearing the unknown here, "oh my god, what happens if I get really ill or something?" Don.t let your negative thoughts destroy your happiness. You now have a plan but if you don't go then your trip will never happen, it will never be born into reality, and also, to protect yourself from robbers, the things that could happen on your trip, what do you do? You prepare, plan and think of what could possibly go wrong and be ready for it in advance.

Hex 20 is about viewing or perhaps reviewing your plans, think it all out very carefully, understand what it entails and how to deal with any eventuality that may arise. You have to realize that now is the time to broaden your horizons, think how your trip will not only benefit you but also your husband and your friends. It is a good time to visit old acquaintances.

I think 51 is your reaction to the trip, given your physical, mental and emotional framework, especially since you are feeling the pressure from others to go. I empathize with you. Physical limitations are very imposing, but with work (physical, mental and emotional) we can make steady progress. I just wouldn't force anything. Stress rarely helps a condition such as what you describe.

51 councils not to lose your composure, and I think that regaining composure would be most helpful to you at this time, in all respects.
