I seem to be having a serious case of the 51s. Everything I ask this is the response. Either full on 51, or something that becomes 51. Also, my significant other: 51. He is in state of 51 as well. What the heck? This sounds like an electrocution or something. How can everything be so totally hair-raising? Does anybody have experience with 51-itis and what it denotes? Tonight I even asked why there was no reply yet to an invitation I had sent out and got 51 judgment. This is just too much. I've seen this hex before as something shocking, something new, adjustment to something new, a new beginning. I'm also wondering, if it's an emotion what do we equate 51 with then? Is it elation? anger? frustration? terror? Within the hexagram there appear to be so many variations actually, including mirth and relief. What about behavior? If you are in a major state of 51 are you at home in bed with the covers pulled over your head? Running wild? What is going on? For my own part I've been trying to figure out several big life moves -- potential ones anyway. Today I cleaned the house, so no shock there. Him, I don't know. Any opinions what to make of this?

Often it is just the feeling of suspense and excitement, not referring to any great shocking event or anything. Unchanging i have found it often signifies to be in a state of great arousal in feelings but the feelings have no outlet...so you have to make an attempt, if you can to calm down...and not drop your bowl.

Unchanging hexagrams often ask you a question or mirror your state. So you are in a state of great arousal..it can be due to passion or fear or anything. I don't think the arousal in 51 is limited to one kind of arousal. I just said to calm down but it depends..some people may be enjoying the arousal of infatuation and may not want to calm down..or be able to calm down. I generally find its quite uncomfortable, feelings of tension one cannot really act out in anyway. It is likley that the emotion you can equate with 51 is the one you are having right now. You are in it..its not 'out there' you need look no further

I think a good thing to do with alot that kind of 51 tension is to get physical,loud music, dance, exersize, shout, scream, let it all out


You say 51itis and actually thats how 51 unchanging can feel...all shook up and nowhere to put all that shook up ness...so it can feel a bit of an affliction, way too much nervous energy for comfort...

If you are always getting 51 unchanging then you are living within 51..in an unfocused sort of way. perhaps you need to find some kind of channel for all this electric but it is hard for you to do that when you are in the middle of the thunder. Hilary said an unchanging hex can mean one has no place to stand to sort of view the experience..one is very much part of it, in it, theres no objectivity..one just has to live it out

Good answer, Trojan. I am an electric person anyway. I get literally overcharged and can blow stuff up,dim or destroy light bulbs, set off car alarms, set fire to office machinery or hair dryers. I know that sounds nuts, but it happens. There are so many decisions to be made right now and it feels like things are hanging fire while I try to figure out which problems to solve first and in what order beyond that. And this guy is NOT helping, by being there but not THERE in any truly discernable way. I know he's going through things too, but maybe the 51 for him is me feeling like I'd like to scream.

What is your experience of 51 as a signal of everything being "new" and need for adjustment? This is a meaning I've seen lately, which could be true as well. I can feel things about to take another turn of the wheel and I know there will be so much to do and absorb. Partly anticipatory too I guess. Thanks, Trojan. Good insight.

if its unchanging apparently the Image is important..i think the Image in Wilhelm says 'in fear...sets his life in order' something like that so could be a time of putting your life in order...as if its urgent..with all the tension that involves

for me, last few years, its usually been emotional stuff


being electic ? Yes i don't blow things up but i get electric shocks off everything..its driving me nuts...can't touch the oven or the car door or all sorts of things without jumping 3 foot in the air

Hex 51 without a question is like trying to wash clothes without a bucket, the soap/answer runs everywhere.

Yes, the sense of everything being unsettled. And perhaps the message is that I'm in this space, and the man of interest is too, and the combination is messy? Trying to make decisions with him in mind, anyway, seems impossible. Making decisions without him seems premature, but maybe the only way to go. Whatever is going on, nothing is getting any clearer just now. Work is confused, the situation of my home is upside down -- the place i'm staying is a rental and it's going up for sale. My "real" home is for sale in a buyer's market that's flooded with properties. Like trying to walk in a sea of marbles.

I've found that when as answer doesn't have meaning it is helpful to get out the old pen and paper and study the hexagram very carefully, line by line. Re-write it in your own words. Just as with any subject you put attention on, after focusing on the pattern so closely 51 will start manifesting all around you.
