(also posted in 56.3 discussion but posted here again because of a dramatic change)

I was going to resign from my job today, I'm very unhappy and in a very complicated and difficult power struggle between two superiors. I don't even have a job lined up, I'm just that unhappy. I have never quit a job before having one set up before, but the situation is so impossible I'm concerned if I don't I will be more and more trapped and less motivated to change.
I asked the I Ching for advice for today. I got 56.3.

There is a feeling that this is inevitable then: it's an almost impossible situation that one needs to radically change. Obviously, I have no intention of burning my bridges as I leave but I do feel a little better, as the line reflects a lot of my thoughts about this job.

I drew this hexagram earlier this morning. At mid morning the CEO asked me out for a coffee and he explained his vision for the design team: a vision that would dramatically change from the current situation. He said basically the only thing he can see as working in the future would be me, in my role.
The rest would have to change. He said it would be a tough couple of months, but that the potential for the future to be spectacularly better is immense if I could hang in there for another couple of difficult months.

Seriously, I was ready to resign after lunch — and this happens at 11am!

So advice for me today from the I ching is 56.3.
Do you suppose it means, don't listen — you should leave? When I initially drew this hexagram I assumed it meant, the situation is too difficult. The resolution has been made to leave so one should move on.

Now I'm uncertain.

What do you think friends?

hi,
at first, I stress that I read from hexagram only, and if something hurt you/wrong/bad, plz forgive me.
1. you have a financial failure in this company.
2.anyway you are very good in work power,so after resign you have some good money.
3. till November 2016 you will get a new stable position. from now to that month, any position if there are, are not stable.
4. as you can see in Yi Jing literature, I have nothing better than you to read from, however with my experience with this hexagram, one my word may be a reference: save anything during waiting time.

Hi there

I am guessing you cast the reading before you went out for coffee, 56.3 is describing arrogance to a degree and someone is in jeopardy of losing their servant , i would guess you would be the servant, it describes a lodge on fire, that to me sounds like the business itself, the CEO it appears from what you say knows this and possibly why he is checking to see that you are hanging around, is the CEO new or anybody there new, just wondering. The line does appear that someone will move on due to arrogance.

If you feel differently now maybe ask what do I need to know about the conversation with the CEO,
that should maybe confirm things then line also leads to 35 being progress, this is auspicious for the person leaving I believe. The Yi does not seem to be warning against leaving.

56 to me is about transition not so much like hex 49 where its more dramatic but more just a smaller transition, exactly like changing jobs.

Thank you for your help Kuutan and Steve.

I did indeed cast this before the conversation with the CEO.

Kuttan can you help with more details: I'm not sure what you mean and would like to know more.
I hope my answers help you.
1. you have a financial failure in this company: Actually this is a well paid position for me, but I have been very under-utilised in terms of my skills. Working there has been very challenging, and it has been hard to be creative there (I'm a designer)
2.anyway you are very good in work power,so after resign you have some good money: I hope so, I am a passionate designer and a hardworker — I really want success and to be movitivated by my work.
3. till November 2016 you will get a new stable position. from now to that month, any position if there are, are not stable: I thought by quitting I would have a few weeks off and then work freelance — which would pay a lot but not be very stable.
4. as you can see in Yi Jing literature, I have nothing better than you to read from, however with my experience with this hexagram, one my word may be a reference: save anything during waiting time: That is a very good idea. I have limited savings — I have been busy sorting out my finances though. I should be more prepared.

Steve,

I asked What should I know about the conversation with the CEO: 1.5 > 14

I'm not sure the response thought casts much light on it: what do you think?

Bradford talks about 1.5 is that the dragon flies high but the real skill is in the landing... great ideas are lofty things but they remain just that unless you bring them down to earth and put them into practice. This is actually relevant because one of my superiors is an external contractor that talks the talk... but has failed to deliver on his promises. It has resulted in a lot of anger from the CEO and expected losses financially for the business. I think this external contractor is also the arrogance of the line I drew before (although if I am frank it is also the business that neglected me, it's young servant, that was so willing to serve).

The CEO in his discussion with me wanted a team that could deliver: and that there is a good chance of business success if this is set up.

But I'm not sure if this question helps me in my decision for my future.

Either way, I felt compelled by this conversation to wait a few more months: in the meantime I will save and organise my life.

Thank you once again for your help

Hi

1.5 leads to hexagram 14 which is good for business, from you are saying that the CEO is possibly the man that the line is refering to, that his plan may just work, its very difficult when you have more than one boss so to speak. It sounds like the plan may well work but will need to stick to that plan without straying from that path.

It looks allot better than the first reading, so lucky for him he spoke to you, saying that he must have also been sensitive to the fact you were unhappy which is a good sign.

I think the good news for you is you will be fortunate either way

sorry for my English - i am not a native English speaker.
1. Financial: I mean the reason for your resigning is money problems. It may comes from the boss side, not from you, e.g they feel they paid you over, and so on.
2. I insist again that your ability in your work is very good, not normal. (from reading, not to fly you!).
3. This issue means: IF you are looking for a stable work, you will not get it BEFORE November.
4. SAVING: that is normal thing.
5. Thank you for your detail reply.

Hello all, thanks once again for your help. I thought I would post an update.

I was approached by a studio who was very interested in me: after some interviews they offered me a job. It is a great opportunity for me and I will learn from two very experienced leaders. It is a very good situation and so I resigned my current position. The pay is very respectable, and while I expect to be working hard I feel supported by the leadership team.

Steve you said: 1.5 leads to hexagram 14 which is good for business, from you are saying that the CEO is possibly the man that the line is refering to, that his plan may just work, its very difficult when you have more than one boss so to speak. It sounds like the plan may well work but will need to stick to that plan without straying from that path.
I do not believe this was happening: the CEO kept changing his mind and the situation was becoming quite unbearable. The quality of leadership I thought was not inspired. I felt the situation would not change due to this management style.

Ktuan, I thought you may find it interesting to know that my new job starts November 3!
Kttuan I'm not sure about the money issue (being paid too much). Perhaps that is the case and I don't have any whisper of it, but I do not believe so — at least not towards my role. Although my immediate boss is paid quite a lot and many people grumble to me about this — people do not believe she earns it. They also hired an external consultant and paid them A LOT of money: so much so it may have created burden on cash flow. Again, I thought this was a poor decision because I was able to do the work. It seemed I was not valued.

Now I'm moving to a place I will be valued. I am very happy.

1.5 is a pretty fortunate line, thats why i thought whatever happens it looked positive for you anyway, the dragon is actually out of the depths and actually flying, sounds like you now.
