59.5 - 4 Relationship

It's been a while since i consulted this forum.
I am a little confused about this answer. I asked "What is the future of my relationship with my girlfriend" and got 59.5 changing to 4. I've searched the forum for other threads about this but it makes little sense regarding my question.

To put it in context, my girlfriend said that sometimes she's feeling that we are at a distance and that maybe we are not inlove. this isn't something new, we've had this feeling for sometime now, but it comes and goes. there are periods when we are very close. So i decided to ask again.

I tend to look at the hexagrams first as elements, and wind, gentleness dispersing water changes to water being constricted by earth. so in a way this is a situation when gentleness in the flow of things evolves in something that needs to be put into place otherwise it will spill.
Then looking at 59, at least what Wilhelm writes, it has a lot to do with a spiritual separation, but i find the answer vague. My father would probably tell me that i need to get more spiritual before anything else, since maybe my lack of practice leads to our emotional separation.

Thinking about it, dispersion is a time of change, the passing of winter and arrival of spring. It is a time when sacrifices for the new year were made and temples were build.
Yang on five has to work hard to pull things together, because water is hard to tame. So in times like these i have to give my best if i want our relationship to work. So it is good to have a clear purpose for your efforts. I don't take sacrifices literary, but it's clear that efforts and energy needs to be invested in this.

But what about youthful folly?

I got that line recently and took the advice to say--knock down all the walls you hide behind, stand right out in the open with all your stuff swept away. Go all in. And do it knowing full well that you don't know what the outcome will be.

I haven't done it yet myself! But I do think 4 in this context is more about the unknown, the blank tarot card, than about youthful folly. Or anyway that is my two cents.

59 has usually heralded the end or dissolution of a relationship for me, when the relationship was the subject of my question.

It's true that water (of 4) collects, but only until it fills up the space, and then it's ready to move on again, and at first it has no idea where it will go. It will go where no resistance appears, and it will carve a new path. Remember that below is water, not a sedentary lake, but abyssal, steep and dangerous terrain, waterfalls, the whole deal.

It sounds as though this relationship stands a chance of renewal, if you both look at things in a fresh and adventuresome manner.

There's also the possibility that it could be speaking to you only, saying that if this relationship dissolves, there's a fresh start, and you go flowing into it without presupposing how it will or should be.

i see 59->4 as a good combination....
the fifth line talk about the opportunity of dissolving egoism... that caused tension and problems... it lead to a more receptive and open situations. a situatons where one want to learn from each other.... to listen and speak to each other.

thank you both for your answers. the forum ate my reply when re-loging in. patro, the way you put things seems to coincide with karchers interpretation of line 5. and sooo, yes, i feel there is a chance for renewal and perspective change, but also separation. that's confusing. renewal means a change of heart and i feel that that's not up to me, but my heart. so i don't really know what to do or ask in that direction. i've gotten many advise of the heart and at times gave it, but it's rarely up to the advise or advisors to change things, it has to come from within and sometimes that feels stuck.

I got this hexagram asking if not thinking about a girl was gonna cause her to come back into my life. I'm not sure if any of this relates to the situation for me but it's been interesting to read and some of it makes some sense. Would be nice to hear the end of the story, or where it went though!
