Some other aspects of 7 and 4 relationships:
In the binary sequence of the IC 4 and 7 make a pair. The overall focus is on conformity, hex 7 through uniformity, hex 4 through education-as-socialisation. 4 puts on a mask but one can still think behind it, 7 focuses on imposing the 'army' way that includes determining how one thinks - and so 'standing orders' etc exist to 'aid' in decision making and one learns to 'think' army etc.
As such hex 7 is more integrating overall, all is pulled into the 'army' way. Hex 4 is a little more differentiating. The dodder analogy is to something that covers everything. Education-as-guidance is more into hexagrams with fire dominating, an ideology to cling to rather than to be imposed upon. (in the mapping of emotions to the IC, issues relating to disgust/rejection map to water, issues relating to acceptance/sense-of-direction map to fire).
From the trigram perspective 07 can be read as "with containment comes devotion" (and so the integrating bias) and 04 as "with containment comes discernment" (and so the more differentiating bias)

From the ICPlus 'black box' the generic properties of hexagram 07 seem to be made up of mixing those generic characteristics of 04, masking, with those of 41, concentrating (distill, purify).
The generic properties of hexagram 04 seem to be made up of mixing those generic characteristics of 07, uniforming, with those of 19, approaching/defering (link high and low - as a recruit can deal with a superior and visa versa - and so as a student relates to/approaches a teacher)
