I met with a financial advisor recently and am considering transferring my retirement savings to him to manage. His approach is rather unique, but his track record seems very successful. He seems honest and very transparent and he is not selling any products. I'm inclined to make the change.

I asked for comment on the advisability of this move and got: 8.2 > 29

8 is about relationship and most interpretations talk about 'being true to oneself and not worrying about the opinions of others' which I find hard to relate to this question. However, Karcher says "You are inside the group, and its origin has a place in you. The way is open. Do not let this connection slip through your fingers." That seems to speak directly to this and affirm the plan to have him manage my money.

However, the relating hexagram 29 gives me pause. It speaks of danger and flowing through a difficult time which could certainly be the context for anything to do with money in these turbulent times.

I'd appreciate your perspective on how this cast addresses my question.

Thank you!

Yourself tells you that "his approach is rather unique" which implies you're already worried.
But you're trying to override yourself via opinions of others - "but his track record seems very successful".
Just check your gut instinct again. 29 also advises being true to one's 'heart'.

From Hilary's translation in WikiWing

'Seeking union, beginning inside.
Constancy, good fortune.'

My take on this as a response to your question is that you can trust the fact that you feel drawn to him.
But this choice is actually based more on your feelings than logic so it might feel slightly risky. Now you have listed the good points here

His approach is rather unique, but his track record seems very successful. He seems honest and very transparent and he is not selling any products. I'm inclined to make the change.
....so it looks like you are using reason to make this choice and yet there is part of you that just wants to make the move and doesn't totally know why. Trusting your intuition can feel risky and perhaps this is the 29 ness of 8 here. The line says 'beginning inside', so the impulse to make the union here begins in your heart not your head. Can these feelings of belonging with a product/person/service always be trusted ? I think when you receive this line then yes it looks like there is a good chance of it. Notice I wrote in WikiWing some time ago that just because the feeling is there it doesn't always mean the relationship will come to fruition but here you are asking about a financial advisor not a personal relationship so you can choose to employ him or not. Most importantly I think since you have 8 I think you will find his approach is just naturally resonant with yours. In hexagram 8 one can feel and sense what one belongs with and what one doesn't belong with.

Oh and don't forget there is a time warning in 8, a warning not to dither, opportunities to unite may not stay open indefinitely. So here if you want him book him sooner rather than later.

Disclaimer....obviously this advice must be subject to your own good sense regarding his competence etc.

Trojina (good morning!) we crossed posts.
Your take on this does makes me have second thoughts on if here it's advisable to go by gut feeling or not.
retro158: how about you ask another question, e.g. "result if I keep my assets right where they are"?

Good Morning Diamanda. I think the augury 'Constancy, good fortune' would show that being constant to that inner feeling of being drawn into union is a good idea yes. I don't think the augury part can be over ridden. But in some matters, personal relationships for example, there being an inner sense of union isn't always enough to make anything happen externally but here retro is in a position to employ him if she wants to. Choosing with whom and what you belong is central with hexagram 8 and choosing is an active thing, a decision, so I think 8.2 indicates yes this is something you feel you belong with but nothing can happen in the outer world until you make that choice.

Thank you both for your perspectives. Finances are one of those areas that don't come naturally to me and by nature I tend to be more conservative, so I'm familiar with feeling a bit of anxiety at the prospect of change. But, having spent a couple hours with this fellow last week and talking through how he approaches investing I do feel a resonance. I'll sit with this over the weekend and make a decision first of next week. Thanks again!
