Dear All,

I am in the middle of this court case which certainly makes me feel like the person described in the hexagram - stuck in limbo with little scope for motion until the situation has run its course. I am about to launch a body of evidence to support my side of the argument, and I can safely say that the grounds for my case are true, it is the amount of supporting evidence that I am worried about - there never seems to be enough. So I'm guessing the situaton is indeed as described in line 4 - moving ahead (with whatever supporting documents I have) to avoid losing the battle.

However, does this mean I will win the case?

One translation (found on wengu.tartarie.com) says: "...the power of disinterested truth is greater than all these obstacles. It carries such weight that the end is achieved, and all danger of bloodshed and all fear disappear. "

This seems good but not all interpretations I have seen are as favourable - compare, for instance the I Ching Pathfinder interpretation of line 4:

"Violence. You should retreat. To prevent the descent of further chaos upon you now, use sincere and honest efforts."

Any thoughts or previous experiences on this one?

Many thanks! :bows:

Its a reassuring answer IMO though I'd hesitate to predict whether you will win or not theres no harm to you and that has to be good

Each time I've cast this line its been a situation full of a kind of anticipatory dread....and yet each time I managed to come through unscathed. Seems often 9.4 is a question of confidence. Often in 9.4 you really are full of self doubt...yet you are saved even if less than expert in some area because your authenticity of intent does reach others concerned in the situation and though it may all be rather hair raising, the real connection enables you to avoid 'bloodshed' ie pain/trouble etc.

As your question concerns your truth, presenting your truth then frankly this is a fairly heartening oracle. Your truth will penetrate even if your presentation is less than perfect etc

Maybe its a 'feel the fear and do it anyway ' line. Use the anxiety to spur you on, its not a line to relax , there is real anxiety present...but you can get through !

However keep that edge of anxiety around this, it may be helpful. There always seems to be anxiety in 9.4 and I think its all part of getting through the ordeal. Big or small 9.4 often represents some kind of ordeal....but the kind one can generally say 'phew' afterwards if you keep your head and do your best.

Strange I've known it come up several times re presenting something to groups, recall getting it for a question on a class I was very scared about teaching since it was unfamiliar territory to me with pretty experienced students. I'd been asked to do it but wasn't sure i was up to it so asked Yi if i should go ahead and got 9.4 so I went ahead...actually quite fortified by 9.4 thinking 'I can only do my best'. It turned out okay I don't think in the end it was the most enlightening class they'd ever had but they seemed engaged, were happy enough with it..mainly I think because we were able to communicate well, which meant they were engaged in expressing themselves, rendering my deficiences less obvious....

You say the amount of supporting evidence worries you...thats very much the kind of fear that comes with 9.4 and with 9.4 in some way we often don't think we have enough or are good enough in some way...but knowing this, going ahead anyway as best you can generally has good results with this line IMO.

BTW I also had 9.4 re some medical blood tests, being a bit scared of results...and it turned out to be a very literal answer 'bad blood disappears, apprehension leaves'...results showed 'bad blood' had left so it can manifest on all sorts of levels involving apprehension and fear

Dear Trojan,

Thank you for sharing your understanding and personal experiences - wow, they do ring a bell!!! In the meantime I have looked up Bradford's translation, and, though the meaning of the line is pretty much as discussed above, he cross-references the entry with the FanYao 1.4, which he translates as "somehow to dance across the deep, no mistakes". This cross-reference seems to reinforce the idea that the hair raising experiences of 9.4 leave us unharmed yet relieved it's over :)))

hi,

I think you will win this case.. it's very auspicious... it's talking about the continuing to grow in a group.... the group (I suppose in exposing evidence) will support your defense line.

in this case it would be very useful.. to toss coins about if you will lose this case.. just to have a comparison... or a better question could be.. is if the counter part will win this case.

anyway the line and the sign seams to be auspicious!
