As a freelance writer who focusses on creative work and who is managing quite well in this economy, I feel pleased with some of what I have accomplished in life. But the truth is my work is not as widely published or acknowledged as I would hope, and I'm behind a lot of my peer group. I sometimes feel I have wasted my potential and that I can't bring off a successful book. I'm working on a novel now and it's a huge technical challenge that I'm only partly meeting, and meanwhile so many people I knew are becoming big successes in their field. And yet at the same time I am proud of the writing I've done.

I thought I would ask the oracle a loaded question - 'Am I ever going to get there?'

There means where some of my peers are - recognised, widely known, acknowledged for their achievements.

I received this reply:

Hexagram 62.1.4.6 to 22

The changing lines are quite devastating. It is perilous for a small bird to fly so high; the prize you have strived for could be the end for you; the plummet to earth is spent lamenting.

This reading holds up a mirror to my worst fears. I feel quite downcast. Is there anyone who can offer any further insight?
Thank you very much! G

It certainly does read as if the IC is giving you negative feedback…

62.1 You are over-reaching yourself.
62.4 You are right where you ought to be.
62.6 To be yearning for more is over extending yourself.

I wonder if the IC is saying that from the spiritual perspective these ”achievements” you are striving for are 62. Minor Details and that you should be placing your attention on 22. Higher Visions?

62 follows 61 and carries with it the remnants of being overly sincere. Sincerity requires a freedom from pretence or from lying, so maybe this desire to be at the 'there' where you perceive your peers to be is at the root of your fears. What do they have that you lack?

By asking Yi a loaded question it is not surprising that you see the reply as having fired a bullet.

'Little Exceeding' through 'Adorning'

The reply to your question is being held in the context of imagining that what you have in front of you is nothing but a blank piece of paper, and if you have the courage you can make the story you write on that paper as beautiful as you can. The story you will write, though, will only be as beautiful as your sense of inner worth will allow (22).

62 advocates that you weigh the pros and cons of the way you conduct yourself in life. Assuming voluntarily positions of humility and thriftiness while at the same time not allowing yourself to become excessively distressed when you encounter sadness or disappointments will point you in the right direction towards 'there'.

62.1 Life is full of abundance if only you would allow it to touch you.
62.4 Accept what you have as being enough at this time.
62.6 Discover the talk that serves you best in the long term and then walk it.

... or you might make a different meaning of this.

Good Luck
