About a job: 62 changing to 45

Hey there,
I have an offer for a seasonal job, which does not look so attractive in terms of money and conditions. I shall have to leave my hometown for 5 months in order to work there. On the other hand, recently I am dating a guy, but the future of this story looks a bit uncertain. I feel confused on what to do, and got this from the Oracle. Any ideas about interpretation? What to do? - 62.3.5 > 45

45 has to do with investments. Your question seems to be a two part question. What to do in regards to the job and also the guy. So I am not sure which 45 is pointing at, but it can't be both because you are only able to invest in one at a time in this situation. 45 could simply be a picture of your question. To what should I invest? I am learning often times the relating hexagram is a picture of what 'is'. 45 is a picture of collecting your harvest. So it is just addressing your question of what to do. What to harvest?

62 is about small steps to reach a goal. Not making giant leaps. What you are going for, what you are harvesting, might end up something very big, but the way inwhich you get there is thru small steps. So the small steps could be towards the job or the guy.

Line 3 is about being on your guard. Being on the defense. Make sure that the job is something that will benefit you or the relationship with the guy will benefit you. I do not which one, maybe deep down you know, or maybe you could ask two questions like:

What if I take the job?
What if I stay and work on a relationship with X?

Line 6 there is no advice here, it is just a picture of someone pulling something in. Like a fish on a line. It could be looked at as pressuring the 'something' to get closer or it could be looked at as making sure you have that 'something' closeby. Whether the 'something' is needed or not is not said. This is a very mysterious line of the Yi. I also just thought it could be looked at as you keeping intouch with the guy while you are away on your job.

I like the John Blofeld translation because it is concise. Of line 62.3 it says 'we are liable to be injured by a subordinate.' This line speaks of getting hurt and it has to be taken seriously.

Sometimes hex 62 has to do with transportation and traveling. The warning is about trouble arising should you decide to travel.

Line 62.5 'Something which would have been of great help to us passes us by.' The prince shoots someone in a cave and something is gained, but nothing of great value.

I take it that this reading concerns the seasonal job, because that was how you worded the title of the thread. But the job and the relationship may be connected. For example, it is possible that the man does not want you to go away and would hinder you if you tried to go. That might explain line 62.3.

Hex 45 can mean the assembling or gathering of a group, and in this case it might signify the gathering together of a group of seasonal workers. I understand the relating hexagram to usually (not always) be what the querant desires or wants most strongly. The querant wants an activity or an affiliation that is meaningful; that gives her life meaning. Sometimes 45 represents a cause of some kind -- or a dedicated group. At other times it can mean how we hold ourselves together, or keep our identity intact. So, if she decides to go, she'd be away with this group for five months. Five months is a really long period of time to be away, so many sacrifices would have to be made. Are you sure, Padma, that you are up to it, on the physical level?

In other words, maybe you will end up saying no to the job and no to the guy, too. You won't lose much from saying no to them both. That's what I see here.

I like what AQ said about hexagram 45 being about investments, what we invest our energies and time in. Maybe there will be another way that you hold yourself together and bring meaning into your life, Padma, something rather more do-able and less dangerous than five months away from home. Hexagram 62 counsels us to keep a low profile and to stay low and out of sight for now. Make small plans, not large, complicated plans.
