I'm currently doing taxes and increasingly haunted by a terror of being audited. This is the first year my partner and I have entered a "higher risk" audit category, because of the structure of our business and the amount of money we made. We're not doing anything false by any means, but it's nightmarish enough working with the accountant to sort out what is or isn't deductible... I'm terrified by the idea of having to go through it all again with an auditor, and pay penalties if we made any mistakes (plus more accounting fees, and lost time). I also had a horrible discovery, which is that a number of receipts from last winter have already faded to the point of being nearly illegible! Now I'm hurrying to photocopy them... ahhh!...

I asked, "What do I need to know about our audit risk?" and received 6.1 into 10.

10 definitely describes the situation as I'm being ultra cautious and conservative in terms of deductions...not trying to deduct anything that is iffy or potentially confusing, even if ends up costing us a bit more in tax money.

6.1 though... What do you all think it's saying? That I shouldn't worry ("drop the issue")? I'm assuming the IRS is the "stronger" adversary... Is Yi saying that being cautious is warranted, but it will be ok?

I'm posting this mostly because I find it rather interesting as a casting... Anyone else have thoughts?

My take on this is that you need to avoid anything that may cause grounds for investigation. Hex 6.1 means doing exactly as you are doing - not putting through anything that remotely appears dodgy. Hex 10 to me indicates keeping things simple and is about not trying to go beyond what you feel comfortable with. I have always found hex 10 cathartic in that it reduces things to a base level. It feels that as long as you are not greedy and put yourself at risk - things will be fine...

Hope you are OK.
Am feeling a bit unwell so apologies for short answer

Mulberry - I went back over hex 10 for a money issue - this hexagram came up several years ago (30) about a separation and finances - and trying to negotiate with a powerful lawyer details about money.

I knew that it had come up and also that it was a time I actually had a reading specifically on it. This may or may not be helpful. However some of your other posts have been of use to me recently (56-64) and you helpfully commented on one of mine

Hexagram 10 looks like two armies up against each other. The translations indicate that there is one dominant force - and one is more powerful than the other. Hexagram 10 itself is that it's either win 1 or lose 0. However the shape of the hexagram can be seen as having a broken defence between it. This could mean a chunk in the armour if one or a small path that can lead to negotiation. My friend said that it reminded her of the football played by soldiers in the First World War - sneaking through a gap in the fence - or prisoners escaping

It sums up that if you are careful 6.1 you will be fine in any negotiations
That happen

You don't need to go through it all again, it's fine. With one line moving that is central to the interpretation IMO and no need to focus so much on 10 except as in caution which you have already exercised. I imagine it is possible to get a little OCD about such things ? If you feel you are getting a tiny bit neurotic with anxiety about audit then I would say 6.1 is asking you to let it go. You have done what you can being as honest as you can

I think that the 10 indicates that despite the fact that you are up against the auditors if you keep things simple you will be OK I think that 10 is quite grounding in saying that once you have completed your return and forgotten about it (as you have to otherwise you drive yourself crazy) even if they question some points you will be able to deal with it.

Thanks Trojina and butterfly... I'm feeling a wee bit less paranoid about it! Still in the process of finishing everything though. I will come back and update if any changes come about, but hopefully all will be smooth in practical terms.
