HI everyone,

I would appreciate any interpretation advice regarding this resulting hexagram. I'm very confused.

I asked, "what is there to know about me being able to leave my current employment to work for myself as self employed?" I Ching replied with 41.2.6>24

My self employment pursuits I feel are my calling.

My current day job, well, the company, is not doing well and we do not know how long we will be in business. And, the work that I do do, is not what I came to the company to do, nor do I enjoy it. The job has changed over time - but the economy is tough right now, so I've stayed. Trying to build my own business on the side until the time was right to make the move. Right now, the situation isn't right for me to transition, but I'm feeling sometime next year it might very well be.

The hexagram result was 41 diminish changing into 24 return. The two changing lines of 41 however signify increase, not diminishing. (lines 2 and 6) And 24 can be a return to what was once or a new beginning. It can also mean a return to oneself. What is one's true calling maybe? If the later, then it would have to relate to the self employment work and not my current position.

From LiSe:
9 at 2: Harvest: determination. To set things right: pitfall. Not diminishing, increasing it.
Get rid of preconceptions, of all 'knowing how things are'. If one expects a miracle, the miracle might actually happen. Even better than expecting it is innocently making it happen oneself, free of any doubt. Believing it is summoning it.

Above 9: Not diminishing, increasing it. Without fault. Determination auspicious. Harvest: proceeding probing. Acquiring servants, without family.
A soul in which diminishing and augmenting do not exist, has no ego. He can find his road simply by walking it. He will find servants without offering them a place to live because being close to a soul like this has more value than anything else. He needs no home, he is a home.

Perhaps this means what is minimal now, will increase, and I will be able to answer my soul's calling?
Or, my business will take off allowing me a new beginning?
Or is it somehow telling me my current full time position will decrease allowing time for the self employment pursuits to take off?

Any suggestions or ideas on the result and what it and the changing lines might mean in light of my questions?

Thanks in advance to anyone who tries to help. It's much appreciated.

Your income will diminish, and you will return to conventional employment. It is extraordinarily difficult to make a living as an alternative practitioner (reiki or psychic). You may have an exceptional talent. Nevertheless, unless you also have social and communication skills, you won't be able to support yourself but will be living off your savings. There are both reiki and psychic professionals at Clarity, but neither is making much money. I do not think you should leave your current employment until you have employment elsewhere lined up. Else, you may find yourself among the long-term unemployed. Sorry. I recommend that you pursue your calling as a sideline. That's what I have done. Guard yourself in this matter. You must do better than break even, or over the long run you will run out of steam and suffer burnout, exhausted from trying too hard with minimal rewards. I do not see either line positive for your achieving a self-supporting income. Line 2: To undertake something brings misfortune. Line 6: One obtains servants (clients) but no longer has a separate home.

I've organized the text you received in the primary hexagram into basic themes:

DECREASE combined with sincerity
Brings about supreme good fortune
Without blame.
How is this to be carried out?
One may use two small bowls for the sacrifice.

>This is a time where you can work with meager gains and a general decrease in money, so long as you are sincere and give it your all.

One may be persevering in this.
Perseverance furthers.
Perseverance brings good fortune.

>Hard work is good, and enough of it could help your financial situation.

It furthers one to undertake something.
To undertake something brings misfortune.
It furthers one to undertake something.

>This causes some confusion here, as you have two "furthers" and one "misfortune". However, this isn't as contradictory as it seems. The whole theme of the hexagram is "A decrease in things can be good for the soul", so the furthers indicates personal fulfillment and improvement, and the misfortune indicates a loss of wealth.

Without decreasing oneself,
One is able to bring increase to others.
If one is increased without depriving others,
There is no blame.
One obtains servants
But no longer has a separate home.

If you do what you do for the good of others, and not simply for their money, then you have your heart in the right place. This decision isn't solely about you, it's about all those you could affect as well. The "one obtains servants, but no longer has a separate home" means you might have or obtain people who depend on you, and instead of separating yourself from them, you are as close as possible to them. These lines may also be warning: if you have dependents, then you should think about their safety before your own personal fulfillment (at this time).

There are more important things than money. This hexagram definitely indicates a lack of it, but if your heart's in the place of personal fulfillment and public good, then you'll never truly be poor (sappy, but true I suppose).

EDIT: Though I will add that the movement of the hexagram, including its XOR, from Decrease to Youthful Folly to Return seems to indicate that the path this takes will be one of financial loss, ignorance, and an eventual return to traditional employment, as pocossin pointed out. So it really depends on how you want to see it, and whether you want to take risks or play it safe. Each has its benefits and downsides.

clarification of self employment

Thank you so much for your guidance.

I'm so sorry for not clarifying the self-employment avenues I am pursuing. It isn't Reiki, although yes, I am a practitioner on the side of my full-time employment currently, and am doing well with that side work. Much more importantly than my benefit, my clients seem to love it.

What I'm training for now are three very related businesses that one can do and have their home as a base. In fact, it seems from research that I could very well be very busy with these businesses and no longer have time for the Reiki work.

One of the businesses will start soon. I am doing the training now, not long at all, then licensing, and I'll be off and running with that - still keeping my day job - if that is even an option. Keep in mind, the company I am currently working for is in trouble, and at any given time, we may all get the news it's over.

In addition to the short-term training for one of the businesses that will finish very soon, I am also in training for another closely related business and this goes out 12 weeks. Will graduate just after US Thanksgiving. Then it's testing and licensing, registration, etc. And this too, would be around my current day position, if I still have it going into 2013.

The training for the 3rd "business", which is really a specialization of the 2nd one, begins June 2013.

None of these three businesses pertain to reiki or psychic work. I will be working for lawyers, the police, real estate companies, individuals, etc. I also have several degrees including a Masters in Business. I wouldn't just quit a day job for something hokey. I'm preparing more for when the bottom falls out with my current position.

If I can prepare well enough by the middle of next year, and have clients (not Reiki, but business/attorneys/etc.) to where I'm seeing growth, I want to leave my current position.

It's more now to me about helping people and doing so while being the boss and working for and with myself.

What is actually diminishing or we've been hearing rumors of demise, is this current company.

So, the is why I am confused with the answer from the I-Ching. I"m not sure what is diminishing. I can see the part about doing something for the greater good and not to be concerned with the monetary. That makes total sense. But with the line, I remember the saying, "do what you love, and the rest will follow." That's how I feel about what I'm trying to get into.

Does any of this change the perspective of the interpretations?

Thank you, too, mryou1, for your guidance. What you wrote makes sense to me. These three business (2 are actually subsets of the first, one more than the other, - which expands the scope of my work possibilities) would actually be working for the benefit of others. They would help other people. When I researched and decided on these to pursue, what led me to them is how they help others. The only thing with this work is that it would be all encompassing. I would not have regular hours and work most days. However, I can truly and sincerely say, that I would love that. I do that now, but not as a recognized trade or job. People need help when they need it and that isn't just from 8am-5pm. You know?

Plus, I have to do something. Get a plan. Because my current position, and very possibly the entire company, will not exist in a year. Certainly not by the end of 2014. With the employment situation here in the states, it's a matter of hanging in there while you can, and then make the move to being your own boss - because jobs are hard to come by more than ever here as was mentioned by either you or Poccossin. I'm done with the corporate world. I want to do something that speaks to my soul. And hopefully, it can also pay my bills. I'm not looking to be very well off.

Anyway, as I wrote Poccossin, I'm not sure what the IC would mean is diminishing. At first, I read the reply as:
My current day job is going away > study and train to become more educated in these other positions speaking to you > and you will find your way back to your path.

Does this make sense or am I still way off the mark?

Thanks again to you and Poccossin.

Thanks for the clarification, Reikiwarmth. I admire your efforts to prepare for a clouded future but continue to think that you will suffer a diminished income when your day job ends if it cannot be replaced with another comparable day job. In my opinion anyone who does competent work is helping others, whether or not involved in personal services.
