Hello,

I was trying the i-ching reading for the first time. And I want to know if I can get the job that I have been interviewing for. The first symbol I get was 18, and the second symbol is 46. Can you help me to interpret the answer? Thanks a bunch!

Hi Pammie,

I?ll come at this in a non-technical way and provide a practical view as I see it.

#18 is about decay, which has come about through indifference and an abuse of human freedom. But, its not just about the abuse of it, its about setting to work on correcting it and improving upon it. ?Decisiveness and energy must take the place of inertia and indifference that have led to decay, in order that the ending may be followed by a new beginning.? This is why the Ching says of it, Supreme good fortune.

It may not happen immediately, but will take a few days to sort out in your mind and in your preparation for the changes which will come. This condition didn?t happen overnight and it won?t be remedied overnight either, but overall, it promises well to set out in the right direction. What has been spoiled through indifference, can me made good again through thoughtful review of the cause followed by resolute action. It is helpful to stir up your enthusiasm and consider the benefits of entering upon this path toward improvement. This promises success.

The change lines illustrate the manner in which you are to approach working on improvement. There may be a tendency to demand too much of yourself and of the situation in question. If you proceed to rashly, you may experience some premature disappointment and frustration. This isn?t helpful to your cause. Nevertheless, too much energy here is better than continued decay, apathy and indifference. The success of your efforts will rely partially upon the help of others. That could mean, council you receive, a small loan to help prepare you for the job, prayer to the unseen, anything which might help to improve your odds of getting the job which is best suited to you.

The outlook appears very good, based on your future hexagram, #20. It represents a view from a high tower and has a two-fold meaning; seeing and being seen. From this elevated vantage point, your perspective will appear more clearly, and again, you will receive additional clarity to see and power to move ahead successfully. You will be instructed and you will then impart the instruction to the rest of you. Your mission will become clearer, as well as the means to accomplish it.

Whether this means you will actually get the job in question, I can?t say for sure, but it does look promising. What I can say for sure, is that you will be well on your way to setting right what has been spoiled.

Hope this helps.

Candid (oops!), if I'm not mistaken, you may have to do part of this reading over again. Pammie said her second hexagram was #46 (not #20)

.....

Pammie, according to my tarot cards, your efforts and determination to prove that you are the best person for the job are likely to pay off for you (Next Turn of Events - 4 of Wands).

You've already made an impression on them(combination Self-Center/Present Condition/Outer Environment - Page of Cups/Knight of Swords/6 of Wands).

There is a slight waiting period (9 of Wands - Crowning Ideal) before you either know for sure or you actually get the position. The boss or the person doing the hiring is very likely a cold, stern individual (Challenge - King of Swords) so you need to show that you yourself are made of strong stuff.

Ultimately, your success depends largely on your continuing efforts (Probable Outcome - 2 of Wands) to sway and convince the person in charge. But you seem to have a built-in perserverance (Strength card in Inner Attitude postion) for this sort of thing anyway. You just need to avoid getting caught up in your feelings of insecurity (Illusions - 9 of Swords) and your bad memories of your past efforts for other postions (5 of Swords).

I'd like to hear how it all turns out.

Doh! *blush* That's what happens when I do a reading before 3am! *chuckles* Ok, I'll work on what I have spoiled and give this another shot.

Briefly Pammie, #46 is Pushing upward, as a plant pushes upward through the ground, from obscurity to power and influence. Its associated with an act of your will. It accomplishes this through its adaptability combined with determination.

Your change line illustrates a calling to a higher principle of some kind. It could be a moral value, which would provide rewards for your services, as apposed to purely monetary values. (I'm curious as to whether this prospective job is for a charity or some sort of public assistance program, possibly for a church or learning institution.)

My apologies for the confusion. Thinking maybe I should borrow some of Supa's bath and herbs before doing my next reading.

Thanks for pointing it out, Dharma.

Synchronicity at work? I just threw the coins regarding ?today at work,? for myself. I received #46 with change in 5th place, changing to #48, The Well. First, the plant is nourished as it pushes upward, then it nourishes others, as water rises up the plant stalk or trunk (or well). I?m reminded to take it one step at a time and to not overlook the details. (Good advice, considering my above error.) Slight humiliation.

Thank you very much, Candid and Dharma! The waiting is right, I have been waiting for them to make a decision for a week and a half now. The position is with a Pharmaceutical company, not a non-profit org. And I guess decay or spoiled position means my current situation of being laid off and jobless at the time. I am dreading to leave the area if I don't get this job. So, they said they would let me know by midweek this week. Will let you girls know the outcome of it. Thanks a lot though!

One girl, one boy -but no harm done Pammie.

The way I see it, Candid has his empathic and sensitive side so very well developed that new arrivals are likely to 'see' his yin side more clearly. Likewise, I've been mistaken for being male because of my outspoken yang approach.

The error is a compliment of sorts. Right, Candid?

Hi Pammie, I always take 18,6 to be saying you don't have to be in a servile position here "He does not serve kings and princes, Sets himself higher goals." If i threw this in regard to a job outcome I would take it to mean that the job was in some way 'beneath me'anyway, that my own goals, rather than corporate goals were more important. As Candid has said the line does seem "a calling to a higher principal of some kind". Its really interesting how he thought it was likely to be a charitable organization - spot on as it turned out. Anyway i hope you do get the job if you want it - but if you don't I think you can comfort yourself perhaps by thinking it was in some way beneath you anyway. The relating hexagram 46 indicates maybe a rise in status - maybe you need to apply for a higher status job than this one. Obviously I have no idea about that but its just a thought.

Hi Pammie,

I had another thought regarding 18-6. Perhaps its saying to rise above being anxious over it. A Christian equivalent would be: "seek ye first the kingdom of God and all his righteousness, and all these (other) things shall be added unto you." Serves not (earthly) kings. Sets herself higher goals.

And yes, as Dharma pointed out, I am a guy. But don't be embarrassed by your mistake. I've accidentally winked to another guy here, mistaking him for a her. I generally don't wink to guys. NOT that there's anything wrong with that!

Sorry, Candid, for my mistake! I am sort of comforted with your wink at another guy...But Thank you all for being so supportive. Have not heard from them yet, but you are right, I should not be so nervous about something that are just worldly things. :0) I should not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Strangely enough, before I saw Candid's message, I saw that same paragraph sunday after service.

Anyways, will keep you folks posted of the outcome. Thanks! ;0)

Pammie, Seeing a repeat of something, such as the scripture passage, is something many here refer to as, synchronicity. Its like a meaningful coincidence. Of course its questionable whether the word, coincidence, applies at all.

Hi, Candid, Dharma and Louise,

Thank you all for you help interpreting the job situation. As of today I have not heard from them yet, so the wait is really a wait. But at the mean time, another job opportunity came up, and I have 80% confidence that I would probably get this new one instead. The new job opp. is actually more challenging, exciting, and have plenty of chance for growth. So, we will see if this is the one that I should get all along. Again, thank you all for your support and help!

Hi Pammie,

That?s great! Sometimes it takes one potential opportunity to activate our will, to create a picture or vision of what would give of the sense of fulfillment. Stay strong. The right position is already yours. You just haven?t caught up with the time of it yet. You will, so please be encouraged!
