Has anyone ever had the experience of divining something is likely to happen, or seeing that the wind is blowing in that direction, and then something intervenes, and you ask again, and you get a completely different reading? This is something I wonder about all of the time; how fixed is fate? This has happened to me twice. I got consistent responses, something happened, and the readings changed.

Another somewhat related question.. has anyone had the experience of being so wrapped up in something and worried that you want to just ask and ask, and you don't trust the first answer, and all of the sudden as you continue to ask, and you start seeing your worst fears reflected in the answers? So it's as if you literally cannot gain any clarity because the oracle has been muddied by your negative energies, and it's just reflecting those energies back. That, of course, is a terrible habit and a problem to deal with in the here and now- (being at peace), but I think most people drawn to divination have had this experience at least once.

Yes, this has happened to me sometimes. I think the future is not fixed in general, it seems to branch off in different directions. One of those branches can have a very high probability - nearly 100% - but there is still no absolute certainty.

I like the idea of Seth that all branches are in fact realized and that different versions of myself will actually experience them. It's similar to the many-worlds-hypothesis in physics.

The course of destiny seems set, especially when looking back upon the past, but while on the road to the future, the smallest shift in temperament can cause a life changing earthquake. But then even that becomes what was supposed to happen. Imo.

Have you seen a film called 'Sliding Doors' with Gwyneth Paltrow in it?

Sometimes it feels a bit like that for me. Like there are some things I have control over and a choice in and others I don't. And every choice that I make has repercussions - some that I can see and some that I can't.

That's a bit vague really isn't it :bag:

Adding some nerd factor to this thread, I once heard a heated discussion on what is the right way of calculating probabilities. One side would argue for the "normal" calculation, i.e., the spectrum lies between 0 and 1. And then there are the "absolutist"s view: the probability is either 0 (an event that hasn't happened) or 1 (an event that has already happened).

How does that relate to the use of I-Ching? The funny thing is, you can keep asking "what if". What if I go with plan A? What if I go with plan B? Et cetera. (I occasionally get an unchanging 43, which I absolutely hate.) The "normal" perception is that if you don't decide on a path, there is still a chance that things may go in your favour. But sometimes I wonder if the absolutists are right -- if you stay undecided, the probability is always a zero.
