Hi there,

I find it helps people if they write the question down after thinking about the situation. The clearer and more focussed the question, the better will be the response from the Yi.

Then just read the question and keep it in your mind as you are casting. If you want to visualise the situation, that will help too.

As for when to cast, if you focus on the question, you will just make the cast at the 'right' time without thinking about it.

I agree with Frandoch. In fact, 9/10 times I can tell you seconds before I throw a changing line. It seems without fail that as focused as I may be on the question, those times when my mind wonders off just as I am about to throw the coins I will end up with a changing line!! It's almost as if a part of me kinesthetically feels the unsettled nature of the situation.

I am a heavy user of the I Ching. When I formulate a query now, it is because I am exasperated about something; stymied by life. I have been trying to turn a dream into reality for maybe 4 years now. When you try that, you run into 2 ditches a week, a bi-weekly wipeout, and a monthly total-crash-and-burn, for which you must be prepared for your Steve McQueen to walk away and say "It sure looked like a good idea at the time".
So I look at my life in terms of "messes of the moment". My query doesn't get specific about what I'm looking for; I just want to state for the record what the mess was when I end the whole thing with a colon ":" instead of a question mark. This means God is not cornered.
The format for my questions go like this: "20031003 - Papa: show me how much approval you'd give to the project of getting all 1,200+ prayers onto hard disk; the file weights 30 pounds; compared to doing my own edition of a possibilities oracle: TKC: TWBD: LMNIT: MPSE: C + S + UFOs: Do prayers:"
TKC = Thy Kingdom Come
TWBD = Thy Will Be Done
LMNIT = Lead Me Not Into Temptation [I can then always blame it on Him]
MPSE = Mama God + Papa God + Holy Spirit + Mother Earth
C+S+UFOs = Comments + Suggestions + Anything that makes a person say "What the f___ is this doing here:"; you have to give a UFO a couple days to see if some alien will open the door and come out.
The reply I got was 54 - The Marrying Maiden, with Line 4 changing to bring 19 - Approach into the picture. 54 says advance brings misfortune, no objective is now favorable. Line 4 says to postpone this activity. 19 says Sublime Success - but in the 8th moon misfortune.
The companion query said the same, except the last words were "Do Oracle:"
The reply was 21 - Chomping on Problems, with Lines 1 & 6 bringing 16 - Enthusiastic Provisioning into the picture. Line 1 said to go barefoot until I get it done; Line 6 said to leave the TV and Radio and Stereo all on at the same time - I'd been thinking of turning it all off. Enthusiastic Provisioning suggested God will be with me on my project.
