Hi,

I have been having some trouble understanding my readings with regards to the coin vs plum blossom.

I have recently broken up with a girl and it ended up badly as she thought I was not being serious with her. She has since been dating someone else and I am looking to get back together with her.

My initial question using coins was: What does the future hold for X and I in terms of a relationship?
The results: 29 with changing lines 1 and 4 to 58
My interpretation: The change is from from very very bad situation to very good with proper help and sincerity

However I later used the Plum Blossom method on 2:47AM 18 August 2014
My question was: How do I win her back?
The results:
Heavenly Stem:
Hour-Yin Earth Day-Yin Metal Month-Yang Water Year-Yang Wood
Earthly Branch:
Hour-Yin Earth Ox Day-Yin Metal Rooster Month-Yang Metal Monkey Year-Yang Fire Horse
Hexagrams: Original-53 changing line 3 Nuclear-64 Final-20
My interpretation: Object element of earth overpowers subject element of wood, overall inauspicious. Furthermore hexagram 53 points to making slow gradual progress, while 64 says that good signs are not always promising and finally 20 seems to refer to making a choice whether or not this is worth it.

I am very confused because the two readings give me very different answers. My coin reading was conducted about 2 months before the Plum Blossom reading. Can someone help me out? I cannot seem to understand this. Are one of the readings wrong? Do they actually agree with each other? Need some enlightening

Things change over time.
If you had done a reading using only one method (either, you pick), two months apart,
You could have very well gotten two very different answers.

So, i don't think it will do your head any good to try and wrap around the discrepency looking for some big theory.

Why dont you just pick one method and stick with it?
I think life and Yi contain enough complexity to keep anyone busy.
Busy is better than dizzy.

Just my thought.

I was thinking that I was asking the question in a different way.

Anyone familiar with how plum blossom should be done? does it have to be the date of a significant event or some sort of event rather than the date i decide to ask some question that has been on my mind for quite a while?

In case anyone is unfamiliar with the Plum Blossom Technique, I have finally found the answer I was looking for by pouring over countless old chinese and new chinese texts on the method. The book which I learned this from did not mention the prerequisites of the method. But for educational purposes, I think its best to share it with everyone just in case.

According to the the text the conditions are:
http://wenku.baidu.com/view/2b8ca4bd960590c69ec376a4.html
1) someone asks you about something and hopes that you can divinate for them
2) you see something, someone, some event that incurs your curiosity or which you find unusual, at this time, you can try to divinate what is occuring
3) you have an odd dream, you may divinate whether it is a good or bad omen
4) when your emotions are not in balance, or are angry do not divinate. This causes your energies to be disrupted and the divination will not be accurate.

From what we can see here is that the Plum Blossom technique can only be used under certain conditions especially if divinating for yourself. Something SIGNIFICANT or ODD must occur and lead you to place your divination.

Furthermore, the first story of divination, the sage mentions: 不动不占,不见事不占。which means if there is no movement or nothing happening, you do not divinate, further backing up the text above.

Which means even if something is bothering you for a long time like your emotions, you still need to meet the conditions above before divinating for yourself. Or you may just ask someone else. Which means that my plum blossom divination did not meet the criteria for self-divination.

I have recently broken up with a girl and it ended up badly as she thought I was not being serious with her.
Were her thoughts correct? If not, what did you do to give her that impression? How can you expect a reconciliation if you do not change?

Well, to phrase it correctly, she broke up with me. We were seeing each other and were intimate for 6 months but we were both unsure where we would end up as we were both in our Masters's program and did not come from the country we were studying in. I as a result was reluctant to make the relationship official which was something she wanted a lot.

Towards the end of our relationship, I did tell her that I wanted to make it official but I guess I did not show enough sincerity in it and after being disappointed multiple times, she told me it was not worth it and began to see someone else.

I have not been talked to her for about 3 weeks but the last we spoke she was still emotional when speaking to me and found it hard to speak to me which leads me to believe that there might be some unresolved feelings. She is a bit immature and tends to block me when she gets upset or sad which is why we have not been talking since then.

However, we have both secured jobs in the same country and I take this as a sign that there might still be some hope left.
