Dangerous Situation 7.1.2.3 -> 36

I have a situation that I think could be getting dangerous. I am running a sort of activism at my University, where I am trying to raise people's awareness of a issue in society that is very difficult for people to care about, given the social climate and even university curriculum. I've started a student group, and when I perceive injustice I do my best to speak out against it. Society however is going in the opposite direction, hysteria is getting more inflamed and laws and policies are getting more draconian and amplifying the injustices that are already deeply ingrained in society. I'm beginning to (and have since I set out for this cause) fear for my own safety.

I asked the Yi after reading of a new University policy that has just passed this month, about the chances of my own persecution taking place.

Any advice or comments about me being persecuted in the university?

7.1.2.3 -> 36

Hexagram 7 is about war. Which very much what this is all about. It says:

Hexagram 7

THE ARMY. The Army needs perseverance
And a strong man.
Good fortune without blame.

Army needs organization and discipline, the leader must capture the hearts of the people and awaken their enthusiasm. War is very dangerous, and brings with it destruction and devastation. If justice and perseverance are the basis of action, all goes well.

Line 1: Order is imperative, If not well ordered, misfortune is possible.

Line 2: The leader should be in contact with the troops, and recognition of the ruler. Good Fortune. Perhaps a sign of good order? Proper leadership so far?

Line 3: There may be casualties? Look out for bad leadership? Perhaps a sign of a few errors? Or even worse a sign of some kind of persecution indeed taking place?

Hexagram 36.

Injury, but perseverance advised in oppressive situations.

So this appears a warning to me. Is it an omen of impending disaster? Or is it a simply a message of caution and advise to continue on with my cause (7) even in perceived darkening times (36)?

Any comments or advice would be appreciated. :bows:

interesting reading !!!
both hex have something in common. water (7) and fire ( 36) are hidden into earth.
water trigrams changes to fire !??

I would take it as be cautious , working for your purpose in an more "invisible" way. being a 36 leader(7)

Ground water is invisibly present within the earth. In the same way the
military power of a people is invisibly present in the masses.

and 36
In some situations indeed a man must hide his light, in order to make his
will prevail inspite of difficulties in his immediate environment.

Good stuff Anemos. I think that is inevitable given the situation as I am one up against many in a place where i'm not very familiar.

Any further comments appreciated.

I think if you are the leader or founder of this group you may need to be aware that those affiliated with you may not express things you necessarily would...or that they could misrepresent the cause.

Thats pretty much because i see 7.1 as saying some people don't actually really know your intentions and 7.3 that you may have people on board who also don't really know your aims who could actually harm the message you are trying to put accross. So if you are acting as leader perhaps you need to get more central to the people who are with you in spreading the message, supporting your aims.(7.2) Otherwise independently they may go out and about and possibly gather more opposition simply because they aren't being too clear or careful about what the message is....and if its a controversial message then you really need to have those who spread it within your command...so to speak (7.2)

I think the 36 may suggest you and your group need to play your cards close to your chest here....and it could mean those within the 'army' undermine the cause from within the ranks . Could mean a number of things but my sense of this is you need to be much more aware of your 'friends', need clearer communication with them, need to be aware that they themselves through lack of clarity in spreading this message may actually undermine the purpose of it.

Looked at as a sentence one could read 'army injured' and where is it being injured from ? 7.3 suggests the ranks themselves, the corpses the army carries ( which may be erroneous or dead ideas) rather than outside factors

Thanks allot Trojan,

I can see where you get that interpretation. It's probably correct. However since it's such a new group, and I don't have so many people yet involved in it. I wonder if this is advice to me as to some aspect of my message i'm putting out myself?

People have asked me over and over what my intentions are. I've told them: just to raise awareness of these issues.

I try to use humorous but provocative images in my flyers and signs to promote the group.

There is one guy who I know who helped me get it together as a student group but then turned out he was against the idea. He hasn't come to any meetings. Maybe I need to get him off the roster. I wonder if he is spreading bad word?
