Determining 'best fit' from use of traditional methods

Hi all,

with the XOR material (if you dont know it see http://members.iimetro.com.au/~lofting/myweb/introXOR.html )

we can determine if the derived hexagram is the 'best fit' for the situation by reference to its 24-ness.

After deriving the hexagram from random/miaculous means, if it is a best fit then the 'beginning' aspect of that hexagram would fit the situation in covering the path to that situation; IOW there is a history associated with the situation and 24-ness allows us to access that history in identifying the beginning of such.

E.g. if you get a derived hexagram (ignoring changing lines) of 011101 then its 24-ness (flip the bottom line of the hexagram) is 111101 and the qualities described by that would have preceded the current situation, been seen as describing the beginning of the situation - there will be a historical link back to a state described by 111101.

If there is no such link then the derived hexagram is probably NOT the best fit for the situation and the question method may be a better bet on getting the best fit.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for starting this thread!

Questions:
You say we can check if 011101 is the best fit for an answer by looking at 111101 to see if that makes sence as something that preceeded the 011101? Can yo give us an example? I mean 011101 is 50. The Ting, correct? So you are saying that if 50. The Ting is the " best fit" to our question, we ought to be able to recognize some sort of 14. Possession in Great Measure experience just prior to the current situation? Can you give me a real life example of a question and how you would apply your thinking to the question? For example, if I were to have asked, "Is my job secure?" and received 50 I would assume that yes, my job is secure. Then to apply your method should I then consider 14 and note how the people at the job have been treating me lately? In this instance, 14 sounds like it could represent a fair pay check. So if 50 is really the best fit I should be able to test it by reflecting on whether I'm treated like I'm a Possession in Great Measure, ie. a valued employee getting decent pay? Anyway, as you can see, I'm needing some help applying your numbers to real life situations.

Rosada, your doing fine with examples. Just note the issue of CONTEXT - since XOR is a symmetric operator so the 24-ness of 50 is 14 as the 24-ness of 14 is 50. In other words all of these come in pairs.

Thus if 14 is the derived hexagram it indicates some recent beginning covering the transformation of raw into refined (and so the directing nature of 14 emerged from a transformation. The reverse is where 50 is the derived and its beginning tied to some action, some direction setting leading into transformation)
