Hi, I'm type II diabetic, and recently asked the I Ching to comment on the wisdom of following a vegetarian diet as part of a therapeutic approach to controlling weight and blood sugar. I drew hexagram 38 Contradiction or Diverging according to R. L. Wing, similar with others. Changing lines were 2nd and 4th, , both indicating I might meet a great or wise person who could advise me--yielding Hexagram 27 Nourishment or Corners of the Mouth. I was encouraged that I drew a hexagram that spoke to nourishment, and also the "contradiction" of Hex 38 seemed to reflect the contradictory dietary advice that diabetics are given, ranging from the high protein low-carb approach of Atkins et al, to low-fat vegan, etc. I tend to lean more towards the veg. end of things (high fiber, etc.) such as macro and others, but I didn't feel that the reading was clear-cut (so what else is new :) ). If anyone has thoughts on this one, I'd be thrilled to hear them.

He 38.2,4 > 27 Vegetarian diet?

Your answer seems to be reflecting the problems that you are having in getting sensible diet advice but you really need to find a person who also has diabetes II and discuss their dietary regime.

Having said the above Hex 27 is to be taken as advice as well as a warning, becareful of what you eat. I personally know two people with diabetes and both of them lean heavily towards the veggie end of the dietary spectrum, eating a minimum amount of chicken, and lots of fish. They are both doing well healthwise and weight wise.

A warning about heavy meat diets, a recent study by some big university proved that diets like Atkins are very dangerous for one's heart and arteries, they will certainly clog up and quickly.

So, go veggie and fruit, with small amounts of animal protein, eat fish, and eat nuts.

Take the advice!

38,2,4-27

Translation reads:
38 line 2: You meet your superior in a narrow alley, but you have done nothing wrong.
38 line 4: You are alone because of opposite interests. You meet just the person [that you are opposed to] and exchange confidence. There may be some sharp [feelings] but it is no mistake [to meet]

27 Nourishment should be the correct kind and good for you. Therefore observe if the nourishment that you seek to eat is solid.

Superior in a narrow alley - Your dietist?
Talk about something a little bit provocating for you? the meet stuff?
27 means nourishment, if it meant that you should be careful you would certainly have an answer like 33 or 39 to turn you away. :)

I think you should take the dietists advice.
