Good morning everyone :)
i had a really strange experience and wanted to share it and see if this happened to anyone else and what you think of it.
While sleeping last night I had a dream where I had to choose several books from a shelf for some reason and buy them. They were used books and in one of them I recognized the handwriting of the man whom I have a thing for in real life. He had written on the inside cover of the book several I ching readings! He didn't write the questions but he wrote the readings as 15.2 and underneath it 32. I immediately understood them to be I ching readings and I was shocked and astounded to find out that he "uses" the I ching too! In my dream I remember thinking "oh, these readings must be about his ex girlfriend or something" Then as I exited the used bookstore I felt as though I was being watched and just before entering the subway I turned and saw him staring at me from a distance away, but I didnt approach him, I just ducked underground and left

In real life, he has no idea that I have feelings for him and I occasionally have dreams about him, but I have never had a dream involving a reading and I am not sure what to make of it. Has anyone else had random readings in a dream and do you take them as seriously as if you had thrown the coins? And what would you make about this situation seeing as in the dream, the readings were his, not mine? I'm completely fascinated by this dream!

Dreams can be vehicles for different sorts of things, but most of the time they operate by association, automatically processing subconscious contents. So if you want to know about the significance of the Yi images in your dream, I bet you'd get more mileage out of asking yourself what you associate with the Yi and its use rather than taking the 32 and 15.2 as the Yi's response to some unconsciously-asked question. I mean, if you don't know the question, how can you interpret the results, right?

On the other hand, you might also choose to think of the guy in question as a sort of question for you and your life: "What about this guy? What do I need to know about this guy?" In that case, 32 talks about partnering of some sort, and 15.2 talks about signalling that things ought to be brought to the same level. But what if this is just your mind coming up with the appropriate Yi lines to match your desires?

Dreams are difficult to read unless they're really, really powerful.

Hi Dobro, i know what you mean about dreams revealing whats going on in your subconscious mind, that is pretty much my belief too. So i understand what you're saying...i have feelings for this guy so my mind went through the hexagrams and picked out corresponding ones that matched my desires? When I saw this guy's readings written in the book, i guess my main thoughts were about how shocked i was that he uses the I ching too and i remember thinking I should not post anything about him on this site in case he sees it! LOL!
I just feel it very weird that I saw someone else's readings and not my own and wondered if the dream was simply telling me what kind of guy he is. Looking at 15.2 it is all about someone having a good character and being an all around good person. Because it was "his" reading, I just don't feel like it has anything to do with me at all. I was curious to see if anyone has had a similar experience.
An odd thing to note is, I awoke from this dream hours before my alarm and felt wide awaken and completely clear minded and "spiritual" if that makes any sense. Its hard to articulate the feeling I had actually

It's a standard illusion to think that dreams are objective knowledge and have nothing to do with us at all. But you get more mileage out of the dream if you claim the whole thing as your own and as having a meaning that centers on you, not somebody else.

hmm, that makes sense too. I do feel the dream was significant in some way, I will just have to continue to roll it around in my mind till I figure it all out. I do feel inside that this is one of those important dreams though.
The readings in the dream really perplex me not only because they his and not mine, but also because like i had said earlier i didnt know his questions that he had asked. And then thirdly, my reaction to those questions was to just casually think they must be about an ex girlfriend of his.
he had also written inside the book covered that the book was a present for his sister, very random.

alev,
I'm not surprised you're so taken with this dream. I'm half in love with that dream guy myself. Who wouldn't be? He's generous and caring towards women (giving his sister a book and taking the time to write a message), in relationships he's modest and open, a good communicator who's in it for the long haul (15>32), and he has odd, unexpected points of connection with you (throwing the I Ching) which suggest a really good fit.

I'd be cautious though about assuming the guy in your dream is the real-life man you associate him with. It could be that real-life-guy was just a convenient symbol for someone you could give your heart to. Still, if real-life-guy, or anyone else for that matter, awakens feelings like those you had in your dream, he's probably worth a second look, and if you find someone who possesses the same qualities as dream-guy, he's probably worth pursuing a relationship with.

(Of course this is just an interpretation that works for me. The right interpretation is the one that works for you.)

Hi Alev,

I've had a similar experience with readings in dreams-- nice to know someone else has as well. My dreams were fairly recent and lasted for a few months. They started out about a guy, but morphed into something more broad and ultimately meaningful. I still can't make much sense of it all, so I don't know how to answer your question exactly. At the time it seemed that the dreams were more specifically about this other person and what felt like a psychic connection. Now I'm more inclined to think that the readings were more about my own growth, and a way to work through some old subconscious stuff. That the dream felt "spiritual" to you is relevant, and maybe says this is about you rather than a comment about the guy's character. I'd suggest asking the yi about this dream-- ask what it means, to whom it refers, and so on. That might give you some clarity...

titania, he certainly sounds like a "dream boy" when you put it like that!
I guess the main thing that befuddles me is the randomness of the i ching readings that appeared. I cannot recall ever drawing 15.2 for myself in any situation (bummer, cause it looks like such an awesome line!) and my experience with 32 is very minimal as well. But I agree that these qualities (from this dream reading) are definately what I want/need from a partner. I confess, I am hoping this dream means someone like this will come my way soon :)
and Thank you Marien for sharing your experience, did the hexs you dreamt about ever play out in real life? and if so, were they relevant in the same context in which you dreamed them?
I actually did consult the I Ching myself last night and asked "What is this dream telling me (if anything significant)? The result was 53.2 changing to 57, which has kinda added to my confusion. All these readings seem positive though. I may just have to sit back and observe things now to see how things play out...

What is your understanding/feeling about those two hexagrams overall? Even if you only knew that 32 meant 'duration', that could have been enough to make it seem like a good relationship hexagram. Also, keep in mind that we know more than we realize. Maybe you once glanced at 15.2 while looking up some other line, thought, 'What an awesome line!' and promptly forgot about it. It could still have been in your memory though, and accessible to your subconscious.

I've been assuming the hexagrams are meaningful because it's very rare for me to remember specific numbers from a dream, so when I do, they usually have some significance. But maybe 15>32 was just a dream symbol for 'I Ching reading' the same way that guy you're interested in may have just been a symbol for 'love interest'.

But I agree that these qualities (from this dream reading) are definately what I want/need from a partner. I confess, I am hoping this dream means someone like this will come my way soon :)

I've never had a dream that foretold the future, but I've had some that gave me the insight and encouragement to move toward a future I wanted or to avoid one I didn't. If my interpretation of the dream works for you, maybe you should investigate further along those lines. (How did you feel when you realized he was staring at you? What else did you know about him in the dream?) Use those feelings as a sort of divining rod in real life, and look for dream boy's qualities in the men you meet. I can't guarantee that he'll come along soon, but there are certainly men with many of dream boy's qualities out there, and if you know what to look for, there's a good chance you'll find one.

Hi Titania, I agree with you, it is very rare that I dream of numbers or recall them when I awake so when it does seem to have some significance. The 15.2 and 32 were actually two separate readings in the dream (as 15.2 changes to 46) and after reading about both I think they do in fact refer to me. Some of the translations i have read for 15.2 show that "your good" cannot be hidden or kept from you and promises good things for the future. I am thinking that 32 means this good change for the future will be enduring. This understanding resonates with me well since I have had a very traumatic year and have been praying and meditating for relief. I'm thinking now that maybe dream boy was the center of the dream because my subconcious knew having him there would get my attention and focus on the dream.
The readings were both very happy readings and since that night, very good things keep happening to me in reality! small things, but very good things! So Dobro seems to have been right on...the readings seem to have been directly about me! Very interesting, my mind throw the coins instead of my hands but the i ching responded accordingly nevertheless!

Have you considered the possibility that this man might have a "thing" for you, too? Numbers in dreams have great significance, in my book. And he was watching you from the shadows, from afar.... maybe the Yi is saying "Wake UP...this guy is a real potential for you!" stranger things have happened..

That makes a lot of sense.

That's great. I've found that powerful dreams often herald a new phase in my life. I'm glad to hear you seem to be entering a good one.

Thank you!
bamboo, i have thought about what you say and that would certainly be a sweet conclusion to all of this! hehe! But I have learned from my past mistakes and am taking this real slow and allowing everything to unfold in it's own way. But it is a possiblity and like you say, stranger things have happened!

Sorry to drag up this old thread of mine again but...it happened again and I thought it would be interesting to give in update.
In real life, aside from a few "shy" flirtations and text messages, there really hasn't been any major progress with "Dream boy", which is fine, i am in no rush
But last night I had another random vivid dream about him which included an I Ching reading!
To make a long story short, in the dream I was running from unknown parties for unknown reasons with a small group of people that were there to protect me I guess as the general feeling was, I was the one the pursuers were after. Anyway, running down some stairs to an underground location (subway maybe?) I stumbled across a bloodied and apparently dead body of a girl (graphic i know). But she suddenly opened her eyes when I got close and I realized she was alive. She joined my group and eventually disclosed she was the ex girlfriend of dream boy. She told me she still loved him and somehow contacted him while still with my group. He resonded by sending her a letter which she showed me in which he told her that she is a nice person but he no longer has romantic feelings for her.
At this point I pulled a letter that he had written me out of my pocket and felt relieved when i read it, it was a letter thanking me for sending him a Birthday card as he usually doesn't celebrate it and he signed the letter, love dream boy.
The ex then apologized to me saying that it was her who has been sabotaging my "relationship" with him!
Later I was separated from my group and gave in, allowing my pursuers to catch me. I was brought to a room to talk to them and was surprised to find that dream boy was among them! He stayed in a separate room while I talked to the others and I shut the door to prevent him from listening in.
At several points in the dream 43.2 appeared on the "screen" and I understood it to be a reading

I just read the text for 43.2 and it seeems to go along with what happened in the dream perfectly. But i feel this situation is so totally bizarre I am flabberghasted. It's very weird how for the second time now my dreams have done readings pertaining to this guy. I know he is single in real life, but I dont know any other details of his past. I think though something is going on behind the scenes though, I will definately be cautious here
