I'm somewhat worried about a friend's cocaine and alcohol use. He lives alone, is surrounded (I think) by some rather seedy characters and has fallen (it appears) into some very bad habits.

He is quite up front about it. He isn't hiding it. I think he realizes that he has gone down the wrong path.

So....I wanted to know 1) What do I need to know about it and 2) What should be my attitude toward it.

1) What do I need to know about his drug and alcohol use?

30.6 to 55

The sixth line, dynamic, shows the king employing his subject in his punitive expeditions. Achieving admirable merit, he breaks only the chiefs of the rebels. Where his prisoners were not their associates, he does not punish. There will be no error.

This makes me think that it is indeed due to someone else as the "chief of the rebels"..the bad influence. I think it's saying that it is as I suspected. He has fallen in with a bad crowd. Rather that punishing him or getting angry I should try to steer him away from the "rebel chief".

2) What should be my attitude toward his drug and alcohol use?

58.2 to 17

I should maintain my integrity and not get involved with it. Of course. Perhaps by doing that I can influence him in a positive way. "Regrets vanish".

My impression from both questions is that the situation has yet to get completely out of control. I should not get angry at him or act in a overly judgmental manner. At the same time...I should not get involved in it at all and I should be quite strict about that. Let my behavior set an example.

I think you have a good understanding. Dont forget 58's "joining with friends" (Empowering qualities).
You can be an anchor to this friend, grounding, stabilizing: yes, an example to follow.

I wish to mention that ive noticed that when people congregate around a drug,
The drug can sometimes just be a superficial factor. There are Inner forces at play creating the real attraction.
The rebel chieftain is mostly something inside your friend.

You friend has taken up with his enemies. If serious talk is still possible, I think you should point out to him how his habits and associates are impeding his abilities and lessening his life although they might appear to be expansive.

Thank you, pocossin.

Fortunately, he is not unaware of what he's doing. So, I'm hoping that I can gently (through example) point him back in the right direction.
