Eye surgery- hexagram 62?

Hi,

I’m new to I ching and recently had an I Ching reading with someone who seems to be good at interpreting the messages based on recommendations I had of him. I was looking to get some clarity on the matter and perhaps a different perspective. I am dealing with a health issue related to my eye and it has resulted in several unsuccessful surgeries. I consulted with several doctors and every doctor says something different or proposes a different surgical approach to try to hopefully fix this health matter for good. I finally found a surgeon who’s technique aligned more with what I think will resolve the issue. Despite feeling like this was the way to go, to move forward with this surgery, I’m afraid due to the trauma of the previous failed surgeries that resulted in a lot of pain. My life has also been on hold for a few years as a result of this health condition.

At the time I didn’t really understand that there would be several numbers to the responses.
The question went along the lines of: would it be favourable for me to do this new surgery in my left eye?

The response I got was that not only would the surgery not make my situation better, but it would not have good results. He later sent me the hexagram results for each question I had asked so the only hexagram I saw as a response for this question was 62. Unfortunately I don’t have any other numbers to interpret this specific question. Does anyone have any perspective on if this 62 hexagram truly means that the result would not be favourable? Could hexagram 62 have any other interpretation in regards to this question?

I then asked him if we could ask the question in a more specific way, and specify exactly what would be done in this surgery since there were many potential surgeries and I was inquiring about this specific technique. We asked if it would be favourable for me to do the surgery with this specific technique and the hexagram response that he gave me was 12. Again he said that the outcome doesn’t look too good, and although the result didn’t show me still having pain, he said there could be some other negative outcome (potentially small) that I would have to deal with.

He also asked a general question: is there any surgery available that would resolve my eye problems? The hexagram response was 5.

When I asked the reader why the first one said I would still be in pain and the second one showed that I would no longer be in pain, when the questions were directed to the same surgery, he said that the I Ching could send these different interpretations when it’s “annoyed” that the same questions are being asked to try to get a different response. I was very confused by all of this.

Could anyone shed some light on these I ching responses? I would like to compare different potential interpretations. Thanks in advance!

I agree more or less with your friend.

would it be favourable for me to do this new surgery in my left eye? 62 unchanging
No it wouldn't be favourable, don't expect much to improve if you do go ahead.

if it would be favourable for me to do the surgery with this specific technique? 12 unchanging
This is another ominous cast, so no, it wouldn't be favourable.

is there any surgery available that would resolve my eye problems? 05 unchanging
It sounds like there will be, if you wait. Perhaps it's a new technique still in development phase.

The response you get to the first question is not invalidated by the response you get to a second question. Thus while 62 says the results, the improvement, would be very small, then getting 12 saying it might lesson the pain doesn't negate the original answer which is still that the improvement would not be total. Like, if you asked, "Does he love me?" and got what seemed like a "No" and then asked again, "Does he love me?" and got what seems like a "Yes" then you'd interpret the two together to mean, "He doesn't love you but he might think you're a good person."
(I don't understand why your reader thought 12 indicated a lessening of pain?)

However, as you have asked for different interpretations, I'm wondering if 62 might have been a description of the operation itself - a small tweak to what had already had been done. Does that fit? Is what you need now only a slight adjustment? In that case perhaps 62 is favorable.

Thank you for your take on this. It’s so strange because for this type of issue, there is only this particular technique available that seemed ideal, since the other surgical techniques available were what caused the problem and pain in the first place. Could it be that the particular surgeon I was planning on doing this technique with would not give me good results? The name of the doctor was not mentioned in the question. However, my surgery would be booked with this particular doctor, so could the response be directed towards the path I was headed in with this doctor only?

Could the hexagram 5 indicate that I need to wait to find a doctor that would give me a good outcome with this specific technique? Again there are varying ways of how this technique can be done. So maybe this doctor would not do it in an ideal way that would resolve my problem.

Or is the I ching saying that this surgical technique in general would not be good regardless of the doctor that I chose and no matter how successful he would be at performing this surgery properly?

The reader did mention that the second question also did not seem to have a good result, although his interpretation of me no longer being in pain did confuse me, because that would be a huge improvement to me.

Hmmm, it’s interesting that you mention that. The surgery itself is intended to make a small structural change that would ideally make a big difference in terms of increasing comfort, and getting rid of my pain and the previous complications. The difference of the procedure itself would be minimal, no drastic changes. In simple terms, the procedure would be a slight repositioning of a specific tissue. But the small change of what would be done would in our hopes resolve the situation. I’m not sure if that changes the interpretation of the 62 at all?

Wow.
Well in that case I see 62 as a positive.

12. Stagnation and 5. Waiting could mean holding off a bit but not necessarily abandoning the idea. Would it take awhile before you could schedule the operation?

That’s cool how such small details can totally change the interpretation of the message.
The operation itself could be scheduled very quickly if I were to do it with this particular doctor. However, I was having doubts about how this doctor would perform this particular technique when he explained it to me so I was looking to see if there were any other surgeons willing to do the procedure and compare if I felt more secure with another surgeon. My life has been on hold for a few years due to this problem so the stagnant response makes sense. I’ve also been holding off on making a decision recently because I’m terrified of the potential outcome and want to make sure I’m confident in my decision.

Yes, it could very well mean that, and the 62 and 12 readings could be referring to the particular doctor.
