Heya, Id like an outsiders opinion on my reading. Question was "How much uncompromising should I be when selling my share in the family business?"
Now from reading some threads here Im not sure if Im using the same method; I throw 3 coins six times, write it down, then decode - 64 possible readings.
On this one I got 26 with ancillary 46. My interpretation is these describe what I want to do but actually do not answer my question at all.
Trying to understand further I backtracked my earlier readings (I dont ask often, so only a handful of them) and I discovered the last few ones were also vague. My first readings were crystal clear though.

If you write the lines down this way, here it would be 26.1.6>46 you will get more answers. If you don't write the lines in people like me have to find a pen and paper to draw it....and if I can't find a pen, well I can't always do it in my head ;)

You use the word 'ancillary' for the second hexagram and it's true that given we call it the 'second' or resulting/relating hexagram it can seem less of a factor in the interpretation. This is not always so however. I like to look at the pattern the change lines make for further insight into the reading. Here lines 1 and 6 change so it's as if you went through the whole hexagram in one jump to flip to 46. So I see this as you already went through the whole 'holding back' process of 26. Now 46 comes to the fore, it's time to go ahead. You have already excercised enough restraint, now it's time for growth.

So to me this is a clear answer it is time to move onwards and upwards. Maybe too much information for a newbie but change patterns here are yang pattern 27, yin pattern 28. You came to the question via a necessity (27) you travel through it by going on alone, needing to move beyond (28).

You used the word 'uncompromising' which can sound harsh, but I think you mean how clear, determined and focused should you be now with regard to this ? Well I see it as a clear 'yes, do what you need to do to get ahead now'. However the progress in 46 is also incremental, you take one step at a time. Go ahead but pace progress in accordance with the timing of the steps that need to be taken.

Look at the lines. 26.1 right at the beginning asks you to halt forward movement but in 26.6 one treads 'heaven's highway', it's all systems go. So you have already been through a whole gamut of self control strategies and you are ready to move on 46 style.

Thanks for the replies, they mean much to me.
Trojina, to clarify the 'uncompromising' I used in the question, Ill provide background: There are several reasons I want to get out of the family business (its real estate). Its in a town I dont like. Im long-term dissatisfied with how my sister is approaching the business. She is reasonable person but on this she is playing me (and our mom) a fool. Another reason is our father which is very toxic and although he doesnt have a share he constantly berates the way we do things. I live in a flat in a different town (hell, its in different country) and Im renting out the spare rooms in it - by myself - and it goes very smooth. This was also one of the main reasons I moved away, I tend to be easily coerced into bad decisions which doesnt happen here when I do things alone and in my way. When I make daytrips to the other town Im usually in foul mood. When I manage the flat here I enjoy the work Im doing. In other words, I do the same business here without my family and it goes so much better.
My mom and sister didnt like it when I told them what Id like to do. Mum even said it would be a betrayal if I were to sell my share to a third party. So 'uncompromising' means how far should I go with this. If the more forthcoming options are not available, should I go further with less regards to them?

Yes I think so. As I said I think you answer shows you already have held yourself in check a great deal. You went through all of 26 already....now it's time to move onwards and upwards, 46.

However if your mom calls it a 'betrayal' I can see it's not so easy. I think you have to keep your goal in mind that you work so much better alone and try to proceed with that in a measured way. How you do this when your family is mad at you I'm not sure. It can't be easy. To me it does look like you need to be free to grow towards your own potential now, and that they have held you back. being held back may not have been a bad thing at some point (26.1) but now I think it's time to get moving in your own flow (26.6). 26.6 is a powerful line, a line where nothing stands in the way of progress. Someone once compared it to the highway in 'Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy'. I don't think your progress can be prevented, it's the way the energy is going, you need to do this. How can you do it without upsetting everyone ? Maybe that is another question ?

In the end your family should want to see you happy. Do you think if you tried to have a real heart to heart about this, you know more communication, your mum might come to see it differently ?

With 26.6 and the 46 I just don't think anything can prevent you making more of a success. I think you will make more success for sure if you follow your plans. I think business is one thing, family feelings another. When the two mix it is very hard. But then again if you make a great success of things surely in the end it benefits everyone anyway ?

I need to revisit that one as well:

"How much uncompromising should I be when selling my share in the family business?"
26 - Checking

See that everything is alright. In this way one will find the invisible problems.

1 - One doesn't want to come and see immediately because it is less important.

6 - One is asked to repair.
In the making
46 - Formation

One is guided until they reach knowledge.
Four follow-up questions:

a) what are the invisible problems (from 26)
b) what is less important? (from 26.1)
c) Repair what? (from 26.6)
d) What knowledge? (from 46)

From those we should be able to determine the answer of the oracle, unless you are satisfied with what came up so far, of course.

I too agree that a family- business its not a family but a business.

I know well all those " betrayal " argument please don't buy them.

Suggest them to buy your share or if you can afford it just gift them. Perhaps will help you to travel light

Wishing you wholeheartedly good luck.

26 - 46.png

I was just reading Huang's view on h18 before stumbling on this post.
It speaks of eternal conflict between father and son, tradition and innovation and the medium for the conflict is work :)

18.6 → 46 (Ascending), Legge:
Shows us one who does not serve either king or feudal lord, but in a lofty spirit prefers (to attend to) his own affairs.

46 is an opposite of 25 (going along), so use your will power - sell your share and go your own way.
18.6 is uber clear on this.

Nice !

In this particular reading, that methods sheds some more light, at least the way I perceive it.

Thanks

Hi Trojina, I am looking at this thread. I am curious about what you say here. What do you mean by change pattern yang/yin -- being 27 and 28 -- for 26.1.6 . Is there a book or resource you would recommend to learn about this? if it is quick for you, I am curious. Thanks for your useful posts.

Hi, ashteroid, how do you derive 18 line 6 from 26.1.6 changing to 46? Or am I missing something ? thanks!

loverofknowledge , just look at the picture in my post.
By taking lines from lowest to highest, step by step, following each one. 26.1 → 18; 18.6 → 46

Oh, I see, so you look at 18 because it's the relating hexagram for 26.1 and then you look at line 18.6 because it's the changing line that will take 21.1.6 to 46.
is that a method that you use regularly? I mean, if there are two changing lines, looking at the relating hexagram for the first changing line? as shedding additional light on the situation?
Thanks!
