I asked the iching this morning 'what can you tell me about filing for bankruptcy'?' Which is something I am seriously considering doing. I've had to learn a lot about managing money through trial and error. To my understanding this will actually improve my credit. It's not something I'm proud of, of course, but I'd like to be realistic about it.

15. Humbleness

Line 1:

Humble, humble is the noble one,
needing this to cross the big river.
Good fortune.

Being humble in order to get something done that is not easy. Things go well.
(The big river is much stronger than you. That force needs to be respected humbly in order to cross the river safely.)

Line 2:

Making humble sounds.
Persistence brings good fortune.

Being humble and yielding. Persisting makes things go well.

Changing to 11, Harmony.

I believe if I'm right, this seems like a go ahead?

The casting suggests that your initiative is correct. However, I hope someone with knowledge of credit counseling will advise you. My understanding (maybe wrong) is that after bankruptcy you may be denied credit for up to seven years.

I see different results:

15 - Decency

One shall not provoke with initiatives.

1 - One is modest so they remain at their place.

2 - One shows to others when it is necessary.
In the making
11 - Duty

Organize, prepare one's work

The Yi advises you to avoid initiatives (filing)

Line 1 tells you to refrain from filing for bankruptcy (line 2), hexagram 11 suggests that you need a better preparation, or organization.

Humility (compliance with social rules) will bring you peace (11).
You mentioned a feeling of belittling yourself, that you are not proud of it - Yi says that's ok. Little goes, great comes (11). Endure this procedure, mask your pride.

Another view:
h15 is also an equalizer, Wilhelm mentions it in the image text.
But even without the text, just looking at the hexagrams 15 and 11, one can see that 3rd line acquires support in form of line 1 and 2. It has advanced too far and can easily fall down, it needs proper backup.
Strong foundation will enable it to go forward (line 4 and higher).
The filing for bankruptcy will equalize your account and bring it into balance (11).

Middle hexagram is 36.
36.2 Allow the horse to help you in a moment of need. To carry away from darkness.

Thank you Trojina! Your concise response seems to fit the cast :)

Thank you Pocossin, you're right on both accounts!

My understanding (maybe wrong) is that after bankruptcy you may be denied credit for up to seven years.

If you are in the USA, there is going to be some work.

If you plan to file for bankruptcy protection, you must get credit counseling from a government-approved organization within 180 days before you file. You also have to complete a debtor education course before your debts can be discharged.

Without going into too much detail, I imagine that nobody would want to approve me for credit at this point so I definitely think I can stand to wait 7 more years, lol. And you're right about the classes, I'll have to take a 'credit counseling' class and a 'debtor education' class, one before and after filing for bankruptcy... I was concerned when I found out about that... but if the Yi's telling me to go ahead I think I'll probably be able to pass those courses. I could even benefit from them as well, seeing as how I may actually need them. lol

Also thank you Taoscopy, in fact the counter perspective you've shared is the main reason I posted this question here on the forum, because it seemed like a go ahead to me but one of the interpretations I came acrossed suggested not making a move, so your advice is helpful, thank you.

Also Ashteroid thank you as well! I didn't realize how perfect 15 is for this question, it really fits doesn't it... especially in terms of how I'm not particularly proud of it. I will be balancing things out quite literally, (11!) as there is a deficit and this will bring me back to zero. Which is actually progress.

Interesting, thank you all again! :)
