Hi. I'm Brandi. I have a multitude of firsts here... First time to ever post a thread anywhere and with the very first question I've asked my I Ching. I have been reading alot and studing but I wanted to ask for your thoughts. I must say I have not wanted to do anything else but learn about "my new friend", I am so intrigued. I do realize however that me not knowing how to interpret very well and asking my most desired question first thing may not have been the grandest idea. lol. Okay so here goes...

My question was, "What will happen with my relationship with Z?"
My first hexagram was 64, with lines 3 and 4 changing to the final hexagram 18.

I am using "The I Ching Workbook" by R.L.Wing, it was suggested by a friend.

Please any thoughts would be fantastic.... Thanks in advance :)

Hi Brandi,

It sounds like there's a whole lot of stuff left to do in this relationship. It also looks like there's a lot of baggage involved. Basic principles between you and Z are in conflict. Somebody's being really stubborn and doesn't want to budge.

64 is all about rebirth and 18 is all about repairing what has been fermenting/what has soured. This relationship is worth salvaging, but be aware that lines 3 and 4 indicate that it will be a battle. You can ultimately win, but you've got to be super determined (line 4) and you've got to ponder long and hard about the situation and what you want to do about it (18) before you take action.

Hi Brandi --

RL Wing's isn't the worst book out there (I've used it for over 20 yrs, mostly for its record-keeping structure) but it's not the best either. If you can lay hands on Carol Anthony's A Guide to the I Ching you'll get some better advice on relationship issues. Or locate the Wilhelm translation online to get a more in-depth reading of an original text. An example here: http://theabysmal.wordpress.com/2006/10/27/i-ching-hexagram-64/.

And of course go thru the Clarity archives and see if others have experienced this reading and what they have to say about it.

I wonder if a better-phrased question might lead you to a clearer answer. Try something like "What would be the consequences of altering/ending this relationship" in some manner, or "What is the lesson of this relationship?"

Snap interpretation: 64 "Before the End" > 18 "Work on what has been spoiled" indicates that the situation is salvageable, but it will take lots of work, lots of letting go of baggage and erroneous thinking, lots of commitment to process rather than outcome.

Best wishes!

Hi. Thank you so much for your suggestions. I tried a different question, "what is the lesson of this relationship", since we are already broken up. I got hexagram 62, with changing lines 2,3 and 4, final hexagram 7. lol. I am now definitely at a loss. I understand the readings but whirlng them all together is hard so far. I will get better the more I use it, I hope.
Thanks Again for all your help.

Hi,
where to begin...
My question was, "What will happen with my relationship with Z?"
My first hexagram was 64, with lines 3 and 4 changing to the final hexagram 18.
what is missing in the relation is trust from you in him! you will notice with the time... that you must change your point of view about. you need his help to reach the goal..like in normal relation between 2 person.

also before the relation move some where... you need to talk about... is better o do it as sooner as possible... because every one have it's own opinion/idea about.
this will most probably create a transition period... where you and him will settle your differences.

I am using "The I Ching Workbook" by R.L.Wing,
I'm using the German version of the book... it's a great book... I also use others. the book contain the same comments like the Wilhelm.
just write in a more understandable way from a occidental thinking view.
but understand it correctly is very difficult like the Wilhelm books.

Thought occurs to me: Brandi, you might have to be engaged in this battle anyway at this time, no matter who you were involved with ...

Maybe it has to do with overcoming some accumulated bad habits --

I recently read that our brains try to turn everything we do into a habit, because the brain's ability to process new info is quite limited. Therefore, we form bad habits very easily, since that's the way we're made. The worst thing about most bad habits is that they rob us of vitality, leaving us low on energy and not having much stamina to do things .... :)

Hi guys. I have been asked to update this post so I am doing just that. Before I go any further let me just say, I think you guys are brilliant in every sense of the word! It is so kind of you to help. And if no one has told you lately... We very much appreciate it!!
Those of you who responded were spot on... the baggage and being stubborn, this is indeed battle I would be in with whomever I was invoved with as I have been here before. This one looks and feels very different however but still the same issue which is trust. In Patros post he spoke of "talking" and I had been thinking of it but I didn't want to give in (stubborn). So I called Z up and asked him come over, he did and things went very well. He is presently seeing someone but I finally have a peace about things now. Our connection is still the same very strong, it felt as if nothing had changed, and parted with "I love you's". I have no clue what the final outcome will be but I feel with everything I am it will be good, be us together or not.

But you know I had to ask...lol... So I asked tonight' "where will this relationship go from here?"
I got hexagram 42 Benefit/Increase, changing lines 3 and 4 to hexagram 13 Community.

I have been searching in the archives but no one has this combo... so back to the books.
If you have thoughts I would soooo love to hear them :)
Again Thank you and many blessings!!

Sounds like you'll benefit in some way from someone else's bad luck and you'll also have a role to play smoothing the path between some people.

Sometimes the I Ching uses the opportunity of your asking a question to tell you about something else that's upcoming in your life, not the specific question you asked. Therefore it's hard to know how it will play out.

But what a great opportunity for you to get back to this thread and add to the archives!
