This is a new started from memorizing The I Ching Hexagram 20 Kaun-contemplation.

This morning I had 28 line 5 changing to 48. And the Form hexagram from 28 is 20(so Rosadea it has nothing to do with 20-1).

Luis asked me from which book I had this and how does it work.

I had it from a Dutch book from Han Boering but I know that more Dutch I Chingers work with this principle.

You have two sequenses the Former Heaven or Fu Shi sequence and the Later Heaven KIng Wen sequence. You can put them on each other, the Former Heaven shines through the King Wen sequence. The world of thought shines through the world of experience.

But now how does it work; first a quote from the book from Han Boering about the Form hexagrams(I translate): "A hexagram changes into the Form hexagram. There is a change from the world of thought into the world of experience. The realisation, idea becomes reality. The flow of the energy flows his natural tendency.
The other movement from the later heaven to the former heaven is a totally different proces. The form goes over in the idea. The trancendance."

Han Boering only workes with the first proces, (but an other Dutch author works with both).
Personnally I also only work with only one. the one I mentioned.

Han goes further"with the oracle you get an certain idea that becomes a reality, and that's something you can work with. You know what this is about,, it's the idea where you are dealing with. It can become reality.

When you work with the Form hexagrammen or Formtrigrammen there are 2 circles of trigrams;

Heaven - fire - thunder - mountain- heaven etc
Earth - water - lake - wind - earth etc.

And there are 16 hexagram circles:

1 30 51 52 1 30 51 52 1 etc
2 29 58 57
3 31 9 36
4 10 50 16
5 49 42 15
6 38 32 23
7 60 28 20
8 47 61 46
11 63 17 53
12 64 54 18
13 21 62 26
14 55 27 33
19 48 45 59
22 25 56 34
24 39 43 37
35 40 41 44

But my question was is anybody also working with this model, I sometimes do especially when I work with the I Ching cards when i make a I Ching patron according the Lo Shu.
LiSe is also mentioning that on het Website she is also working with the cards from Han Boering. She under the part Structures the Big patron the Bua gua cards.
When you draw a card in the proces and later you draw a card what is the form hexagram from the first than the first will very easy be to realise in the real world. It's not only an idea but it becomes reality that you also become aware of.

Hopefully it's a a little bit clear now, because it has become a long story. When you have questions please come.

Hmm, interesting. Thanks Frank. Personally, I haven't seen that before. Perhaps I've missed it in one of my books. I wonder where Mr. Boering got it from then... I searched for Han Boering in Amazon and this came out, which is a quote from Ed. Hacker et al, "I Ching, an annotated bibliography"

I wonder if Harmen or LiSe have something to add to this approach.

Another curious thing. I did a search on Boering in Google and the vast majority of what comes up is in Dutch, which is fine, obviously, but I can't help myself from asking: why there's nothing in English? He seems to have some interesting and novel ideas.

I hope he's not one of those "Masters" that claim to have an exclusive, word of mouth, passed-thru-an-ancient-lineage-of-Yi-Masters, set of instructions on the Yi... I have little patience for those... (and there are quite a few, mind you...) :D

Han Boering is one of the Yi specialist in Holland, he wrote severall books and has a great translation, that's the one I still use the most often. It's a pitty that he is not translated. He told me once there would be a translation maybe but Han is also somebody when it's not coming on his path he can also live with that.

I think it's an interesting technique to work with the form hexagrams.

I should say try to work with it then we can discuss if it's working for you.

In the example of 20 is 7 the form hexagram. So when you look from a 20 perspective, you can organise (7) the situation in a better way.

Thanks Frank, I find the technique very interesting and novel, indeed. I just wish I had some background on the origins of it.

I tell you what though, I can also use that hexagram derivation for my cartoons... The more the merrier. :D

From the other thread:

The form hexagram is, for the one who don't know the name or use a different one, the hexagram that is formed when you change the trigrams from the Former Heaven sequence into the trigrams of the Later heaven sequence.

When you say from the trigrams from the Former Heaven sequence into the trigrams of the Later Heaven, do you mean based on their relative position in the circle, or you could call it their index ?

Should be able to calculate that easily enough !

Hi Guys,

Actually it´s easier explained like this... (Never heared of those 16 hexagram cicles...
, and I´m dutch and know Han´s books...):

1. First... get before you the Fu Xi circle, that´s the circle where the trigrams are in there oposites... Heaven above, Earth below, Fire at the left, Water at the right etc...
2. Look up the trigrams in the hexagram received... say, hexagram 20... then you look to those trigrams in the Fu Xi circle... Wind (above in the hexagram) is in the southwest... Earth is in the North...
3. Then take the other circle before you... the King Wen circle... where Thunder is at the left, Fire is at top, etc...
4. Then you see in the SAME directions... (Wind for Southwest, and Earth for North), the trigrams Earth in the Southwest, and Water in the North...
5. Change them with the original positions of the trigrams in the original hexagram...
6. There you have your FORM hexagram... (hexagram 7 in this case... ).

It is also possible to do it the other way round (ofcourse)!
1. Look in the Wen Cicle... (say 20... that´s Wind in the Southeast, Earth in the Southwest...)
2. Look in the Fu Xi cicle at the SAME directions... In the southeast you find Lake, and in the Southwest Wind... Lake upon Wind...
3. There is your IDEA hexagram... (in this case hexagram 28...).

So yes... 20 is the FORM of 28..., and therefor 28 is the IDEA of 20...

Have fun using them...
