hi everyone, long time no see!

I have recently applied for a teaching job in Japan. I haven't put together a CV for over ten years but the school and the country look like an exciting opportunity for me. I'm afraid that I've been a bit obsessive about asking whether it is going to happen or not.

I'll list my questions and the hexagrams that followed.

"What will be the result of applying to work at this school in Japan?"

2 unchanging

"What will be the outcome of my application?"

13.1.4.5

After applying...

What is helpful for me to keep in mind now that I have applied for this position in Japan?

14 unchanging

Any takers?

Thanks!

Maurey

Have you been to Japan before Maurey ? I knew someone who went to teach in Japan and whilst she enjoyed it she said the difference in ways of relating to others took some getting used to.

She said for example her english girlfriends would normally chat about everything but she found her japanese friends much more reserved which at times made her feel lonley...anyway maybe that was just her experience

Hmm to be honest i find your readings rather ambiguous. i think the Yi is being a little coy ;) well either that or i just don't know what they are saying.

Not sure why I'm thinking of your answer in terms of friends..or friends comes to mind as an issue in going there. 13.1.4.5 >52 ? well if you don't get the job maybe some of your friends will be very pleased at you staying put (52) ?!

Sorry i don't know much what to make of the other answers. hex 2 a completely open field, an opportunity to allow you to grow in it what you'd like to ?

I'm just wondering how empty you are happy with a field being ?

14 unchanging often says 'you already have' but I'm not saying that means you already have the job..just you already have

Both the 2 and the 14 ask you questions about this don't they ?

Anyway hope other give their thoughts as I'm not too clear on these answers (obviously lol)

What did you think of them btw ?

Hi Maurey

I think the reading actually echoes Trojans comments about life in Japan that if you go to Japan you will have problems with finding 'harmony with people'. Maybe this is a time of standtsill for you and you are looking for something to get you out of that hence applying for jobs in Japan.

I have never been to Japan but I have had many friends go there for one reason or another. Japan is completely obsessed with Flamenco (which is kind of interesting if you think of the contrasts between Japanese ways of being and the passion and energy and power inherent in Flamenco). I have had long talks with Spanish friends who have lived in Japan and taught Flamenco and while their classes and performances were always really really appreciated they said they most felt socially isolated. And one of my friends even learnt Japanese but she said it didn't help too much with the fundamental differences.

Look at the lines - 13.1 at the gate - superficial pleasantries, early approaches,
getting out of the familiar
13.4 personal boundaries between people
13.5 a wish to have things more out in the open,

As a comment on your application rather than going 2 Japan - maybe it implies they will eventually offer you something but I am not sure about that at all. Job application questions are funny. I asked the ching about an application last week before I did the application and I got 8.5 - yeah they accepted my application.......... duh!
Then just before I sent it I asked again: "what do you think of my application" I received 64.

That was quite funny because when I looked I had actually missed a bit of the form.... more duh's! Then I asked what would happen and I received 24!!!
OK I have heard nothing return 2 looking..........

so sorry to be so woolly but good luck and it would be good to hear what happens.

By the way my friend said Japanese is not difficult to learn at all unlike Chinese. But you would need to learn it or you will be really isolated. My friend said many people who can speak English wont speak it in public for fear of making mistakes.

PS I find most of the time that unmoving hex's throw you back on yourself. 14 is your talent/resources so it says you got it at least but It asks you to look to you for it. Does that make sense?

Hi Maurey,

To me this looks very normal, the way one might logically expect things to go if they applied for a position in another country.

First, the result of applying is openness, receptivity. This could mean your openness and/or theirs.

The outcome is that you get to know more about each other, at first in an impersonal way, observing local customs and routines, and later you can form more detailed relationships; and, possibly experience a run in or two, which may be personal or cultural differences, or a mix of both, but things can iron out eventually.

What does Yi think about the application? It's a work in progress.

You're obviously qualified.
