Hello, Maybe foolishly, I asked,What are chances of finding a lover in next few months-#39-only moving line #1 becoming # 63. Question answer makes NO sense to me- the text clearly says the OBSTACLES are out there-external- the solution, at leasttemporarily, is to turn within, work on self. My point- how can there be an OBSTACLE out there for the nature of the question-unless its someone I know and have alienating somehow- IF MEETING SOMEONE IS NOT ON THE HORIZON, THE ANSWER SHOULD HAVE BEEN REFLECTIVE OF THAT waiting etc- if there is no one out there in the time period-THAT IS NOT AN OBSTACLE thanks azzimm

I had to giggle a little at all the capital letters you wrote in your question.

I think line one has a lot to do with simply going where the energy is, and right now there is nowhere external for it to go . You have a goal of wanting to find a lover in the next few months. #39 possible obstacles: staying at home by yourself and not talking to anyone, only socialising with the same group of people where one might assume love potentials have either run their course or don't exist, never approaching someone you are attracted or only approaching people who really aren't available and any other obstacle you can think of.

Now what I think yi is saying with your reading is, as an overall picture for 39 > 63, take a look at the obstacles (the ones 'out there' and also inside yourself), once you've defined them use them like a maze, don't send your energy into the walls, send it down the path ways where the energy can flow, then you'll already be across and in the arms of a lover ;)

Looking particularly at the moving line, well, yes working on yourself is a brilliant approach, can be as simple as holding dear to the belief that there actually is no question, but a fact, you will find a lover. Know who you want, what kind of love you're looking for, then when you see it, let the energy flow down those maze paths.

And if you hit a few walls don't be discouraged, just more useful information on where it is best to send your energy. If some of walls being hit show up as a person turning you down, remember that even if someone says no, if they were worthy, were asked kindly and with reverence then their 'no' will be of a similar tone and wont be difficult to take.

If you look at the reading that way then yi is teaching you the quantum way to find your lover.

I'd also suggest reading some of the published yijing texts, I just read a few of my fav authors for this line and their interpretations are illuminating. And that would be the perfect redirect of energy as is suggested in 39.1 ;)

azzimm, so, perhaps there are two possibilities:

First, that the I Ching is giving you a wrong, faulty, misleading answer and you should totally ignore what it has to say. In that case, I'd delete the bookmark for this site and never return!

Or, perhaps you don't understand the answer?

Which do you think it is?

I'd say to start to unravel this, don't think that obstacles are necessarily external - something out there. Consider that they could be internal: attitudes, emotions, self-defeating behaviors and so forth. And second (though I say this with some hesitancy because I don't want it to replace self-responsibility), even if there are no obvious external 'obstacles,' who's to say we fully understand our world? Could there be energies and forces that are beyond our control or that we know nothing about that are affecting our lives?

A quick take on your reading: there are obstacles - either internal or external, or both. You could try to make your journey and be turned back, or just simply heed the advice, and return (to what only you can decide), maybe to home, or to some starting point.

This is not a bad option - if the mountain pass is flooded (for now), then simply turn around and come back to where you started. And even if you've gotten your tail wet and the axle to your wagon is broken, no worries, you can still come back. After you complete a journey (or you don't complete it) there will be another - but maybe understanding the obstacles will serve you next time you venture out.

Best, David.
