Hello all,
I've been stuck in a situation for 6months-a year. This is not about relationships, a job, or wealth. It's about feeling blocked, trapped (mentally). Though I'm a courageous person and always try to fight these negative emotions, The feelings of "I can't" "When will I overcome this fears" "when will I start feeling capable"... Are mining my confidence.
It seems that there is something I need to learn or to deal with before I move forward to the next step. I just feel it inside, I need to learn something from this in order to become bigger, better. I feel that the lack of learning from this situation is keeping me in it.
This situation is getting me frustrated and I need to understand what I need to learn in order to move forward.

So I asked the yi,
.. What do I need to learn from this situation in order to move forward?
And got 6.1.4 to 61

Legge: Stress indicates that despite sincere motivations, one still meets with opposition and obstruction. Maintain an apprehensive caution. To prosecute the contention to the bitter end will produce evil results. It is advantageous to see the Great Man. It is not advantageous to cross the great stream.
So this is me putting up a fight against me/ the yi says that my way of fighting this feelings is ok but I still find obstacles. What does it mean to stop before going to the end? If I do so wouldn't it be like losing the battle? Why the yi is telling me to step back from something that should be for personal growth?

Line 1, line 4
What I understand: don't go into a long conversation with your self. Just don't listen to those nasty feelings. "Tame your impulse to act and learn from your restricted situation. "All things come to him who waits."

61. Inner truth
Encourages me to have confidence. It also implies the importance of our thoughts.

Would you pls help me understand the final meaning?

Thanks in advance

B

Hi Bourbonist,

6.1.4 to 61

"Awakening is not a matter of controlling the outer world, but rather the discovery of an inner truth."

You are 'litigating' with Reality, saying, "If I learn more, then I'll know more, and that will make me a better person."

However, this is not how the cosmology of the Yi works. In the East, the world we live in is framed as a self-based psycho-physical perception overlaying a numinous Presence which arises from Absence, or emptiness.

That psycho-physical perception that seeks to 'know' and control the world for self-interest? That's 'you' in the form of your ego ~ your small separate self ~ which exists inside a narrative story that you are constantly telling yourself.

For your ego, the accumulation of 'knowledge' about how the external world works from a self-interested point of view is useful for perceived advantage...but, but, but, it says nothing about what is Truly Real ~ i.e., what is enduring throughout and beyond all time and space.

To find the Real, according to the Yi, one turns inward and foregoes self-interested knowledge and control to follow the Way, which naturally does the right thing on its own with no need for agency.

Here's how Hinton's "Tao Te Ching" puts it in Chapter 48:

"To work at learning brings more each day.
To work at Way brings less each day,

less and still less
until you’re nothing’s own doing.
And when you’re nothing’s own doing, there’s nothing you don’t do.

To grasp all beneath heaven, leave it alone.
Leave it alone, that’s all,
and nothing in all beneath heaven will elude you."

It's all in how you relate to the objects in the stream of your thoughts ~ here's an image:

I highly recommend "The Untethered Soul" by Singer as a good, clear guide to finding Freedom through Awareness.

I hope this helps!

Ok, so I gave it a thought... or two. What I need to understand from this situation is to let go, not to try to control. Try not to think. I find it hard to put in words what resonates with me from your text. But it makes a lot of sense. Thank you so much!

You're very welcome ~ thanks for presenting your situation so well.

Your intuition is right on...instead of being absorbed into your experience, you want your awareness to be Present to your experience, like this:

TrueCompassion.jpg

This isn't something that you think is true...you know it's true, before you even have to think about it.

If this is continuing to resonate with you, then I think you'll find Untethered Soul to be like a mind map of awareness with which your intuition can productively conduct its wordless search for the silent selfless Presence that knows and does 'right' things effortlessly...

Much Love and Many Blessings!

Pick your battles.

6.1 A fight you can't win.
When you meet someone new - like the three unexpected guests in the previous line, 5.6 - it's only natural you'll unintentionally step on someone's toes. It doesn't matter who's fault it was. It was an accident, just say you're sorry and get on with things.

6.4 A fight you can win.
Sure you could probably squash the other guy, but why get all stirred up?

61. Get past the measuring and counting and blaming and get to the inner connection.

Thanks rosada for your input, I really appreciate it!
As I was reading your reply this morning (it's 740 am in this part of the world) a poem** came to my mind, a small sentence: Think less about your problems and more about your work
and your problems, without nourishment, will die.

I think it resonates with your explanation of hex 61.

Thank you so much for your help!

Interesting! You know we get told so often how our thoughts become things and how important it is that we focus on our goals and not our problems but the stumbling block for me has been not having a strong compelling goal. Lose 10 pounds! Write the novel! Learn Spanish! Worthy ambitions but none of that keeps me engaged and before long I'm once again rehashing what I should have said or done ten years ago and blocking out any new possibilities. Then I had an Aha! Moment realizing that one doesn't really need a Significant Goal - we just have to have SOMETHING to look forward to, something to draw us into the future, ANYTHING that will to out weigh the gravity of the past.

Just to say that I have just cast the same reading for an extremely similar situation regarding a job.....
This is why I like this site - always something relevant to turn to. Very useful responses here.

I loved the clips and thank you for posting Bourbonist - and good luck with things
