I asked the IC for advice and insight on what I need to do regarding a relationship. "What is the best course of action for me in these circumstances regarding this person?"

I received hexagram 31. Would you please help me interpret that as advice? I'm challenged to see this hex as advice, more like information on the topic... Yes, there is certainly great attraction! Or am I not hearing the message clearly? I'm easily confused, so yhat's certainly possible:)

Also, I'd like to thank the people here who have so kindly responded to my previous inquiries. I've been having some serious troubles with my computer and can't always get in here (or stay in long enough) to respond and say thank you. I'm thinking/hoping that's resolved now....

So, thank you all!
~Blessings~

Hi ! Kdedeaux4,

I would like to provide my comprehension of hexagram 31 from different perspectives of viewing as follows for your reference.

Xian signifies telepathy. From the viewpoint of the character structure, 咸 (Xian) stems from 感 (i.e. the feeling) but without 心 (i.e. the heart), signifying it is an unintentional telepathy.

Xian evolves after the top line of the trigram Chien (perseverance, the sky) descends to the top position of the trigram Kun (submission, the earth) to become Gen, and the top line of the trigram Kun rises to the top position of the trigram Chien to become the trigram Duei. (please see attachment: Xian)

The original trigram Chien represents masculinity and the original trigram Kun, femininity; their setup is like the hexagram Pi (12): blockage & stagnation. After Chien and Kun intersect; Pi disappears, Chi (氣 which is an invisible power circulating within the human body and the world) is actuated and each masculine line correlates with the feminine line as they are telepathic. (please see attachment: correlation)

Hence its text is: Xian (telepathy), smooth progress (like chi circulating); it is advantageous or appropriate to persist (in interacting through telepathy); it is auspicious to marry a woman (with whom one shares telepathy).
The telepathy also exists between the king and the courtier (i.e. the same aspiration), the father and the son (i.e. filial affection), colleagues (i.e. collaboration) and friends (i.e. the friendship) etc.

From the viewpoint of the relationship between the male and the female, the upper trigram Duei (joy, the marsh) represents the youngest daughter and the mouth, and the bottom trigram Gen, the youngest son and the hand; hence it very often refers to the telepathy between the young male and female, and the telepathy of the mouth and the hand signifies teasing and flirting. Apart from these, the internal hexagram of Xian is the hexagram Hou: to meet unexpectedly (hexagram 44), which usually refers to adultery, and the changed hexagram is the hexagram Sun: to diminish (41), which advises ‘to restrain one’s anger and lessens one’s desire’.

Lines 1 & 4 correlate with each other; line 1 is the toe that always walks ahead of the body, featuring impetuosity; line 4 is at the heart’s position, back and forth moving unstably signifies infidelity. Provided that both lines 4 and 1 change, the hexagram will become Chi Chi: completion (hexagram 63), i.e. a happy ending since all the lines stay at their proper positions and correlate with one another; however Chi Chi is also a hexagram of good beginning but bad ending up as the next hexagram is Wei Chi (64), not completed yet.

Line 6 represents the upper trigram Duei, the mouth; line 3 represents the bottom trigram Gen, the hand at the position of the thigh and hip, symbolizing teasing and flirting. Provided that both lines 6 and 3 change, the hexagram will become Pi: stagnation and blockage (12), which signifies no interplay between the masculine and the feminine.

Line 2 is the shank, i.e. a very active part but it is driven by the thigh, signifying blind following; line 5, the muscles of the back, is immune from seduction. Provided that both lines 5 and 2 change, i.e. line 2 becomes steadfast with what it correlates with and line 5 becomes receptive, the hexagram will turn to Hen: to endure (32), which is a phenomenon that the spouse gets along in harmony and the relationship can last for a long time.

Best regards

Thank you so much Tuck. The concept of telepathy is fitting in this situation, so it helps me to see the hex from another angle!
I appreciate your time and consideration in responding!
