I was recently offered the opportunity to pursue a specialized type of training in my field that is highly selective (difficult to get into) and also quite time-intensive. I had tried to pursue this training a few years back, when I was a bit younger and it was easier to be flexible financially, geographically, etc -- but back then the door never seemed to open. When it recently did, my partner and I decided I should jump at the chance to pursue my old dream, even though it means putting my current work (which I have also grown to love) aside for a while. Even though now is a less convenient time to pursue this than it would have been a few years ago, deep down it really felt right to see my old dream through and find out where it leads.

Now that I'm set to start the training in just a couple of months, I've started to have some anxiety about whether or not it was foolish to push my current work and more recent plans aside in pursuit of satisfying an old goal. I asked the iching, "Is pursuing this training/career step really in my overall best interests?" and received hexagram 49, with Line 1 changing and transforming to hexagram 31. I have struggled to interpret this. It seems to be indicating that pursuing this training will mean a big change, that there may be some struggle, but that with some patience there could be good fortune and real attraction (job satisfaction) along this path. What do you all see in this reading? I am fairly new to iching so I appreciate your insights. Thank you!

Hi ukelady,
I understand the feeling of questioning one's choices thought they've been made full heartedly. It is always a bit difficult for me to receive an answer from the Yi Jing to a Yes/No question like the one you've asked.
Is pursuing this training/career step really in my overall best interests?
49.1>31
In this case I would say that the line points to a situation where premature action complicates things. I read from James DeKorne's site: " Restrain yourself. You don't really know if it is an appropriate time to act. Wait until you're sure. A little moderation will do a world of good now, whereas premature action will bring difficulties."

All the best! :)
