Hexagram 5 then 19 then 5 again - always waiting?

This is my first post here, however I have been a lurker without joining for quite awhile. The reason why I have finally joined is to get some input from objective parties on an ongoing situation in my life (not a relationship question either:)).

So, here it is: I asked why is there such a delay in me signing with a literary agent? (I have several looking at my work now, as an aside) I received hexagram 5 with line 4 changing to hex 43. I understand only a few things in regards to this - one is that line 4 is waiting in the blood, obviously I am really stressed about this delay and the iching is acknowledging perhaps? or am I wrong? The resulting hex 43 I don't get. Is the waiting eventually going to lead to a breakthrough?

Because of my not understanding I asked - what can I do to help the situation along while I am waiting and I received hexagram 19 unchanging. I thought about it for awhile and did some research. I think that I am supposed to be preparing myself for what is about to happen but taking a more active role in my life, which I feel that I am doing with all of the queries I have sent out and following up on them, not to mention that I am continuing to write everyday.

Now, because I wanted further clarification on what was meant by hex 19 I asked it to clarify what it meant by that answer. It gave me...Hexagram 5 again!! This time with changing lines 1, 2, and 6 to hexagram 53.

The purpose of this long drawn out explanation is what I think it is trying to tell me is to keep doing what I am doing, writing and so forth but that I have to keep waiting. If I try to push things too far by getting anxious and out of sorts then I'm only hurting myself because I'll get an agent eventually anyway, but only when the time is right. Could someone else look at this and tell me if I am completely wrong here? Thanks so much. :)

For me 5.4 has always been fairly strong kind of advice not to continue waiting in a stressed anxious way, and sometimes i take it as advice not to wait, waiting is uncomfortable and bad for you here. So I agree with your interpretations really. You then got 19 and felt it was about taking a more active role in things, especially encouraging new opportunities. You can't expect results too soon with 19 , you have to focus on doing the work, creating opportunities, preparing the ground i think. Then you got 5 >53..theres really alot of patience required, but you should wait in ease and confidence not anxiety, don't expect things too soon and also be open to some unusual looking opportunities too (5.6) 5>53 suggests things are developing but totally at the their own pace. So yes you need to do the work of whatever it is you need to do but understanding this will take time and will unfold gradually, everything in proper order (53). With 53 there always seems to be procedures of a kind that must be followed and take time. So in a nutshell I agree with you but would also say I think theres suggestion you have confidence in what you await. I always find with hex 5 its an indication that something will happen..so its not like you are waiting and worrying and it might not happen, it will happen but don't spoil the time of waiting by through anxiety or worry..but rather doing the 19 stuff you described

Thank you so much for your reply. It really helps to know that I am not a complete moron when it came to interpreting the results. LOL. You mentioned something about having confidence in the waiting period. I think that is what I lack when it comes to this waiting, I mean I have done the work and continue to do the work (which is tough with a full time job and a life :)) but sometimes I feel like it's never coming. I'm just glad that I wasn't being completely delusional and seeing what wasn't really there in the replies to my questions. Thanks again. :)

Line 5.4 suggests that your book acceptance is stuck, nobody can make up their minds whether to accept or reject it, so at present all you can do is sweat it out, so keep cool because you will hear something soon.

The hex suggests that you wait but in the knowledge that something very good is coming your way soon, so be happy because really all will be well in a few weeks time.

Thank you, willowfox. So, you see hex 19 as less active than I thought it was, like I'm being told that I am doing all that I can now so just waiting now for a few weeks or months is all I need to do? I'll continue to write every day of course but it's really calming for me to know that good news is ahead of me. Thanks again. :)

What Trojan said. For me, 5.4 is always a call to action. The I Ching is saying, "You're in a very bad place (mentally or physically). Get out now." Your second 5 reading provides some suggestions about how to accomplish that.

5.1 Get out. Go out into the community, or out to an open space (a park, say, or a meadow), or both.
5.2 Don't listen to the voices of negativity. They may be coming from people around you or from inside your own head, but either way, don't waste your time on them. They can't do anything but bring you down.
5.6 Be open to unexpected 'visitors'. Maybe it'll be a scruffy looking stranger, someone you wouldn't normally bother with, but who can introduce you to a new agent who's eager to sign you. Maybe it will be a chance remark or passing thought which, if you pursue it, will inspire a new project or revitalize your current work. Maybe it will be something else altogether. In any case, treat unexpected encounters with consideration and respect. You'll be the richer for it.
