Hi, I am asking regarding what his feelings are for me, friends or lovers?

I have hexagram 50, with changing lines 2,3,4 and relating hexagram 23.

Change in the fourth place means:
The legs of the ting are broken.
The prince's meal is spilled
And his person is soiled.
Misfortune.

Can anyone please make out what this means? Is it good or bad news? It seems to be mixed.

Basically, this says that the guy has no feelings of love for you, you can probably talk together okay but other than that I see no romantic feelings. It would seem that his interest lies elsewhere, you are an acquaintance.

When you ask for assistance in interpreting an I Ching reading, it helps if you would offer some background information so that the people who try to help you will know what hooks to hang the information onto. If I had not known that you were asking about an ongoing relationship and that your boyfriend is going away soon, that would have altered my perception of your reading too.

You got Hexagram 50, The Cauldron. The caldron always tells of some kind of transformation taking place, or of a transformation to come. It also speaks of your mind becoming sharp and clear. And it speaks of supreme success.

Line 2 describes your relationship with your boyfriend as it is now. On the whole, your relationship seems quite fulfilling for you, the envy of others.

Line 3 says that this relationship comes to an end.

Line 4 say that the legs of the cauldron are broken, and that the food spills out onto someone else, runining his clothing. Misfortune. This, to me, makes it seem that your parting of the ways is going to be permanent.

All this transforms into Hexagram 23, Splitting Apart. Splitting Apart means decay, ruin.

My take on this is that you and your boyfriend are going to break up, but you will be the one doing the breaking up. While your boyfriend is gone, you find someone else. Hexagram 50 speaks of a transformation in which your mind becomes sharp and clear. It says that there is supreme success in this. The transformation comes from within you, in other words. Line 4 tells of the misfortune occurring to a prince. This suggests to me that the misfortune befalls your boyfriend, not you. The explanatory text for this moving line says this split occurs between knowledge and aspirations.

If I were you, I would do some additional, follow-up readings about this matter. That should bring things into clearer perspective for you.

I asked this question because I am unsure if we should remain friends, as he is going off for a long time.
What you say seems to be accurate; however I didn't intend to break up with him.
I did ask another question regarding this, the same question, nonetheless phrased a different way.

How does he feel about me?
Hexagram 11. 1.2.3.5 changing to 8.

I did ask another, what is our relationship like?
hex 51 with no changing lines.

From other interpretations he does seem to love me.

The first reading you did about your relationship indicated that you have a very fulfilling relationship with him right now. There is no indication that you now are even thinking about separating. Those thoughts will come later.

I am unable to tell from the first reading if you are lovers or close friends. Whatever the nature of your relationship, the first reading indicates that it is quite positive and quite deep.

When you asked what this fellow feels about you, you got Hexagram 11, Peace. In The Sequence, it says, "Good conduct, then contentment; thus calm prevails." This pretty much sums up everything else that is described in this section for Hexagram 11. It means that this guy feels contented and comfortable with you. He feels at peace and at home with you.

The bottom moving line indicates that he finds his relationship with you to be almost too good to be true.

The second moving line says that he feels his relationship with you provides balance for him, and he is right, for it does provide his life with positive grounding.

The third moving line changes the context, and begins speaking directly to you about this relationship. You are told by this moving line to enjoy your relationship with him while it lasts.

The fifth moving line speaks of the sovereign giving up his daughter in marriage. This also refers to you, informing you that are going to find someone else.

All of this transforms into Hexagram 8 (Union). This hexagram means joyously uniting. Since this is the concluding hexagram, and you are told in the previous moving lines that you will be finding another, and it is hinted at in your previous divination that you will be finding another, this hexagram has to refer to your new boyfriend. It confirms that you will be joyously uniting with someone else.

When you asked what your relationship this fellow is like, you got The Arousing (Shock, Thunder). This hexagram is obviously speaking to the future, not the immediate present. And considering everything else that has been revealed about your relationship so far, it is quite apt, don't you think?

Thank you for your detailed explanation of the hexagrams to me. I really appreciate how you tie up the hexagrams to get a full picture and the apt interpretation and effort you put in. Everything you have mentioned (that is occurring at present) is true.

However may I politely digress about the direction of the relationship. With no offense to your or any interpretation skill, which I feel is superb, I feel I must clarify some things.

For instance, the last question where I asked : What is our relationship like/ does he love me; I am focused on the present guy. I would think hexagram 51 refers to the present.

I did ask another, are there 3rd parties in my & his relationship: I got 8. union, with no changing lines.

Further, I asked: will we ever split apart and fall out of love?
I got 46. Sheng, changing lines 4,6. to 50. Cauldron.

Does he love only me and no other?
Hex 55, no changing lines.

As I posed this question, we have just undergone some sort of quarrel.
So I asked, will he come back to me?
I got 23. po, split apart, followed by 8. union.

Wow. I had guessed that your disinterest in this fellow would not start for another few weeks or months. I think this is a good example of how situations and events speed up when you do I Ching divinations about them.

Interpeting I Ching/Wilhelm readings is, in my opinion, a laborious undertaking. I use an I Ching of my own that I devised over the course of fifteen years or so. All the hexagram and moving line meanings consist of one easy-to-understand sentence. Using it for divinations is a breeze.

Since you seem satisfied with your current readings and have no more really stressful questions, I am going to let it go at that rather than spend the next couple of hours trying to give you good interpretaions of your newest readings. If some pressing issue arises and I happen to see your post on this website, then I will definitely endeavor to help out again.
