I must say I have had a difficult 1.5 years...I just feel like I see no way out and daily I am asking myself when will something good come into my life. The end of a good relationship, (which was a really good one, not seeing this with rose colored glasses, it was more than good), a person I thought was my friend didn't invite me to her wedding this summer (I found out through our group chat, only 6 people are in the chat, but I was the only one in the chat that was not invited), another person I thought was a friend completely ghosted me this past summer (we used to hang out all the time but her Instagram photos show she is still in town and having fun), then I briefly dated this guy back in August, everything looked good and then he tells me he doesn't want to get in a relationship, and I never hear from him again even though he said we could remain friends which I was up for indeed...all these incidents happened back to back, like a domino effect. I felt awful and I find myself feeling sorry for myself and sometimes I cry...I know its not the end of the world, no one died but still I feel even more lonely than I ever have. I am hanging in there obviously but I do feel really low at times. I just feel left out in the cold.

I asked the I ching today to show me what can I look forward to that would make me happy?

I got hexagram 62-Small Exceeding unchanging
I wasn't expecting this hexagram at all. Perhaps it is saying I will gradually, in small doses, start to see improvements in my life?
Perhaps not to be so dramatic? Perhaps it is the small things in my life I should be grateful for?

Hi hellomoon,

I’m new to I Ching but the way you describe hex 62 is exactly how I see it too. You’ve had a difficult period and maybe you should first start to enjoy the little things in life. I’ve had similar periods when everything falls apart, but in the end, I try to keep my head up and my heart protected from pain and suffering by enjoying whatever small good thing that happens to me. You should distance yourself from hardships, put things into perspective and start to appreciate what’s still around you.

I often go to Wengu to get the meaning of hexagrams and I believe what they say is in line with this interpretation: « The structure of the hexagram gives rise to the idea that this message is brought by a bird. In Ta Kuo, PREPONDERANCE OF THE GREAT (28), the four strong, heavy lines within, supported only by two weak lines without, give the image of a sagging ridgepole. Here the supporting weak lines are both outside and preponderant; this gives the image of a soaring bird. But a bird should not try to surpass itself and fly into the sun; it should descend to the earth, where its nest is. In this way it gives the message conveyed by the hexagram. »

Don't forget the small bird in 62 is carrying a message across a great big sky, a great big landscape. In 61 one's inner reality looms large, one's inner world and concerns loom large in the space, one feels of great significance. That is our inner world seems significant, our emotions our pain. In 62 it's the other way around, our reality is very little against the big sky and it seems we aren't of significance and perhaps that's the situation you are in. You are at a time where people aren't recognising your inner world, they're kind of acting like the relationships you had were of no significance and that is very hurtful. But also consider there's a mission you are on yourself and perhaps the whole landscape is far far bigger than you imagined.

There's something you are meant to understand at this time, something you need to deal with as you re making a big transition you can only accomplish by doing the things it says

'The image of preponderance of the small.
Thus in her conduct the superior hellomoon gives preponderance to reverence.
In bereavement she gives preponderance to grief.
In her expenditures she gives preponderance to thrift.' (Wilhelm adapted)

So there is direct advice to how to deal with your grief. You pay attention to it, you mourn. You stay very small to avoid injury while you make this transition, all in you are very careful because it's a difficult time where who you are and what you feels seems dwarfed against the outer circumstances.

My advice is read the text of 62 really carefully and really feel into how you might be that little bird in the sky and how you might best go through the time.

There's a hexagram about your experience, you cast it, so this an experience others go through too, it's known by Yi or by the authors of Yi so many have been through just the same thing where 'friends' aren't friends any more and all at the same time other people just seem to fall away.

Look after your own world very carefully as if you were looking after a very small bird in a great big world.

Also this 62uc thread may help

62 is the metaphor of the icarus that reflects vulnerability and helplessness, like a newborn chick.

When I get such a hexagram I see that one needs to learn, gain life experience and learn from it, and to follow the way of the middle path. Do not fly too high or too low. At bot ends there are threats.
