Today I cannot calm down. Now that's the story: the publishing company said, they would discuss any chance of a contract after my editing. I ended it about two weeks ago. My agent sent it to the publishing company. I haven't received an answer yet - which is quite normal, you will say (a fortnight is not that much): but I find it very difficult this time to sit and wait. My situation at the University has become very difficult in the last period, and I'm really feeling as if my writing is the only thing that can save me (sorry, it sounds quite ridicolous... But this is the plain truth, so maybe it is better if I write it). Anyhow, I asked the Oracle: "what's happening with my novel?" I had hex. 21, line 3 changing into hex. 30. It seems I am facing some obstacle, but I have chances to go successfully through the whole business. Then, as the only thing I can do (as I have no direct contact with the publishing company, and most of all with A., the editor who's reading my novel) is to talk with my agent, I asked: "what happens if I "push" him a little bit?" Well, the answer is hex. 46, no changing lines - to me it sounds as: "This is exactly what you have to do, my dear!" Maybe I'm not the "pusher" kind, but I'll do my best. Anyhow, what do you think of my hexs? Thank you all.

21.3 > 30 sounds like a referance to the editing and a cautionary note to appear to be quite willing to do whatever is necessary.
Wilhelm's take on 21.3,
"It is easy to discriminate between right and wrong in this case; it is like biting on tender meat." Is this saying it is easy to see what is good and what should be changed in your novel?
"But one encounters a hardened sinner, and, aroused by anger, one goes a little too far." Could this be you refusing to see and make all the changes they want? Or maybe you just wanting them to respond more quickly? The point is I think you're being cautioned to be very patient, very agreeabe. We don't want the publishers to just throw up their hands and say, "Oh we can't spend any more time on this - next!"

30. Thus the superior man, by perpetuating this brightness, Illumines the four quarters of the world.
That sounds like your work being published and distributed. So It seems of you don't push, eventually all the obstacles are ironed out.

And then you get 46, which reads like you should push! Well, not push exactly, but "One must see the great man. Fear not." and "Heaps up small things in order to achieve something high and great" sounds like you wouldn't be out of line to ask your agent what he thinks is a reasonable waiting period and perhaps to let him know that if the publishers feel further tweaking is necessary you are willing to do the work.

Since you are focusing so much of you attention on this project because of your concern about the University and your other prospects, perhaps you should consult the I Ching about these areas.

Besst of luck with it all.

Rosada, thanks! I can assure you this time I did not say "no!", I have been patient, I wrote what they wanted (my agent was quite satisfied): but it did not cost me anything - I am not a rebel, I simply cannot stand stupidity, and this time they did not ask me anything stupid - I quite agreed with what they thought of my novel - it really needed some intervention. And, you're right, it is very likely they ask for other modifications: but this is not the part I found difficult to stand (I like writing!). The point is exactly that they do not answer as quickly as I'd like... If the whole thing would "become official", I would be considered in a very different way in my whole life and also at the university (It would be very difficult to ignore someone who gets a contract from one of the major publishing companies in her country...). Anyhow, I'll write to my agent as smoothly, calmly, quietly and humbly as I can... KIsses.

"what's happening with my novel?" I had hex. 21, line 3 changing into hex. 30.

Hex 21.3 It would seem that something is wrong with your book, you have not completed it to their liking and they are going to tell you so.

Hex 30 Your book needs some alterations to make it shine, and again they will report back to you about it, so a need to persevere is called for to find eventual success.

I asked: "what happens if I "push" him a little bit?" Well, the answer is hex. 46,

Yes, go ahead and press his button.
