There's a guy (I'm a gal) that I'm not in contact with (haven't been in contact with for some time) and I can 't seem to get over him. I continue to hold to the hope that I will see him again someday. It has gotten to the point where my sadness over this is affecting my life.

How can I get over him?

12.4.6 to 8

Line 4:
He who acts at the command of the highest
Remains without blame.
Those of like mind partake of the blessing.

Line 6:
The standstill comes to an end.
First standstill, then good fortune.

The hexagram is about a standstill, two things being apart, going their separate ways. This is the situation right now.

However, the moving lines appear to be saying that the standstill is coming to an end. Is it answering my question or trying to alert me to something that's going on?

I'm having trouble interpreting it in light of the question: How can I get over him? I can get over him by bringing the standstill to an end? Clearly that would help me get over him, but is that the correct interpretation?

The present state of obstruction and stagnation is changing into one of uniting with that which you need. This may be a person, or it may be an idea, an approach, a lifestyle change.

The hexagram is about a standstill, two things being apart, going their separate ways. This is the situation right now.

I see it as standstill, not as things going separate ways or being apart (that would be 43 or 38).

However, the moving lines appear to be saying that the standstill is coming to an end. Is it answering my question or trying to alert me to something that's going on?

It's alerting you to the fact that despite the way things are now (painful) and the way they appear (it's going to continue to be this way) the situation is actually changing.

I'm having trouble interpreting it in light of the question: How can I get over him? I can get over him by bringing the standstill to an end? Clearly that would help me get over him, but is that the correct interpretation?

You can't bring standstill to an end, but standstill will inevitably change into something else. What that something is is hinted at in the two changing lines and in the relating hexagram.

12.4 talks about a responsibility you have to carry out orders of some kind. This could be anything from your life's mission to a paying job you have. I have no idea, but perhaps you might see something if you think about it. But the other part of the line is really interesting, cuz it talks about partnering another person in a way that brings radiance and fulfillment. I'd be willing to bet money that another sweetheart (and a good one) is coming your way at some point. (On the job, perhaps? Why not?)

12.6 talks about the stagnation coming to an end, about how at one moment there's obstruction and how at the next moment there's joy. Again, considering your felt need for a good relationship, this points to a good relationship.

You know, sometimes what the Yi tells people is so obvious that they don't see it, cuz they think there's something difficult to understand being said to them. But what I see in your draw is pretty obvious. You want to know how you can get over him, and the Yi shows you basically two states: the one you're in (12) and the one where you get together either with somebody else (8) or find yourself involved in an activity that helps you center yourself and your life (8). Obvious, isn't it? You just have to be patient, and if you believe what the Yi's telling you, it will help you find that patience.

Well, it suggests that you don't have too worry too much anymore as your problem about thinking about the guy will soon be a thing of the past with a little help from yourself, as a new opportunity is coming your way which will take your mind off the problem.

Line 4 is the position of the minister, guide, counselor. I think the I Ching is encouraging you to get some outside help to pull you through this. One or two sessions with a professional could really fast forward the whole healing. If that's not a realistic possibility for you then perhaps a book could be the guide. "How to Survive The Loss of a Love" is an easy read that just quietly walks you through all the stages.

12.6 makes me reflect that the planet Saturn, the planet of stuckness!, is retrograde right now creating a feeling of things not moving ahead. Saturn turns direct the beginning of May.

8. Holding Together is a great omen for ultimately connecting with a worthy partner.:)
