Hi Dobro

Yes, Heaven,Earth and Man's interaction are described also in the main text.

In the circle of study close to Wilhelm, there was a great debate about this interaction (Heaven, Earth, Chance and Man).

The most interesting question was:

What is the real power of Man to determinate his future, if another 3 Powers also take action un-influenciable by Man?

(Meaning: Man cann't control/direct the action of Heaven, Earth or Chance...therefore, does Man really can determinate his future?)

Wilhelm suggested the group to ask directly to the Yi. It is said that the answer was geniuos (but every one interested should find it by his/her self)

Best wishes

I just read something online, and this thread and the top line of 63 came to mind:

From The Lost by Daniel Mendelsohn.

“regret for what we have lost, for the pasts we have to abandon, often poisons any attempt to make a new life.” For those compelled to look “back at what has been, rather than forward into the future,” he writes, “the great danger is tears, the unstoppable weeping that the Greeks ... knew was not only a pain but a narcotic pleasure, too: a mournful contemplation so flawless so crystalline, that it can, in the end, immobilize you.”

Just some food for thought

The issues are more divided into two 'threads':

yang path : what WAS/IS/WILL_BE (imagined or real)

yin path: what COULD HAVE BEEN/ IS NOT/ COULD BE

Mourning/grief/suffering relate to Mountain and so issues of a lost 'love' or the impossibility of some imagined 'love' and covers the sense of self-restraint and development of discernment (self-restraint doubled - we become proactive). Overall the focus is on sharing space (bonding) with another/other 'in here'.

The other side of the coin is Lake with its focus on joy etc and includes self-reflection and so issues of narcissism. (gets into sharing space with another/others 'out there') - The coin is called PASSION and yes it can be really 'immobilising' as we get stuck with regrets (what could have been etc) or infatuations.

As for 63 Line 6 -
Soaking one's head. Danger. [ One gets too carried away with one's success (refinement completed); almost drowning in it.]

63, correct sequencing, closure, turns into 37 - rigid structure elicits tension release.

63 is unconditional in nature, 37 conditional, particular. The 'correct sequencing' of 63 is expressed in the formal hierarchy of the family where the order sets a context that serves to relieve tension (all members are in their 'correct' places, husband as husband...third daughter as third daughter etc)

The 'perfection' of the order in 63 can be attractive, we reach the top and turn to contemplate the perfection, the 'correct steps' that got us there... as such we stop when we should be readying for the next, we become immobilised by the past .... this turning reflects more a focus on what WAS rather than what COULD have been (latter suggested in 64 - Line 6 -
"Balanced, moving towards drinking alcohol. No harm in this. Soaking one's head (one gets drunk). One loses one's balance.[not complete]" [Even celebration has it's difficulties.]
) - the top line change of 64 moves us to 40 and its focus on relaxed structure (relaxation of structure through its 'sudden' release of tension - iow 37/40 cover tension release issues, one format is derived from relaxing structure, the other by imposing structure)
