How realistic is my hope for success in this field? 19.1.4 to 40

Hello-

I’m in the process of dedicating myself more to my chosen field in the arts- there are risks involved- especially as I’m dipping into limited savings to allow time for producing work. I’ve been working commercially in the same field (which never felt well aligned) and now I’m moving into art as a middle-aged (or beyond) person. I’m pretty passionate about it, but have self doubts- am I realistic within the scope of my talents/abilities/position in life (that includes financial limitations)?

I can’t tell if this reading suggests obstacles will be removed- as in yes, the pathway is clear for you! OR if it’s suggesting a release of longing for this 19.4 talks about an end- an end to this prospect?

I’d be grateful if anyone has any thoughts or clarifying experience to share. Thanks.

19.1.4 (Overseeing) - Yi cannot promise anything, but if you are a good boss to others (coolheaded, respectful, appreciative of whoever is helping your career along), and a good boss to yourself (managing your health, money, and time), you will have a better chance of success.

40 (Solution) - This suggests that resolution of conflict (perhaps inner conflict?) is possible, but you must be the one to take the first step toward peace (inner peace?)

Thank you, Starflower for your thoughtful response. This sounds like a good recipe for anyone to succeed. Agency/initiative, moderation, respect and appreciation toward others. As you sow, you reap sort of thing. I was expecting a more personal interpretation, but that definitely could be what I need to hear- “Well, if you want it, make the necessary steps to achieve it.”

QUESTION: Is it realistic for me to become an artist and move away from my present career as a commercial artist? Do I have the talent/ability/position in my life to make this a successful (and lucrative) transition especially since I experience myself at mid-life? Can I be successful and lucrative as an artist even though I am at mid-life?

HEX 19: APPROACH
The idea of approach as it applies to your question is: Will I become great in my new endeavor?
There are three ways to interpret LIN/APPROACH.
1. Approaching what is great, approaching ones greatness
2. Approaching what is stronger or greater to that which is lower. The contrast between two things.
3. The attitude of one who is in a higher position as compared to those in a lower position and especifically the approaching attitude of condescension of one who is in a position power over those who are subordinates.

All three apply to the journey towards achieving greatness or success (1) . It is important to recognize what is best over what will not be effective (2) and one must have the correct attitude to those who are of a lesser position (i.e. do not be arrogant) as one approaches greatness (3).

The Judgement
APPROACH has supreme success.
Perseverance furthers.
When the eighth month comes,
There will be misfortune.

This time is after the winter solstice so spring is approaching. Spring does not last forever so the time is now. Take advantage of the time as the light begins to push the darkness out as it approaches spring. This time will end when August comes and summer is over. "We must take heed of this change in good time." (Wilhelm)

The image of the earth over the lake. The lake is bound by the earth thus implying limitations. There are limitations you must be aware of but like the lake it is not bounded in its depth but in its boundaries. By knowing these limitations, one can make choices accordingly and ultimately these limitations can change. These are limitations that everyman has and must recognize.

When it comes to giving, sharing, teaching others there are no limits. What you create as an artist is a way giving thus you are without limitations when it comes to your service or your gifts to humanity. You are limitless is those things you create for humanity in both breadth and depth.

Line 1:
Nine in the beginning means:
Joint approach.
Perseverance brings good fortune.

This line is the individual or the people. This is a strong line in a strong position. This is an appropriate line. The three lower lines represent one who is rising to power and influence.

The good you create is for the benefit of all people thus as you progress you become an inspiration to those around you. It is the people who will be the greatest influence to your success. With success you can find yourself amongst those who can be a great support to your career. Always remember to not be swept up in the success such that you forgets what is important. Those that are import are the people that supported your growth and success or the fact that the people/your audience is the reason for your success . The success will be dependent on how one perseveres. Persevere in what is right and this will bring good fortune.

"Joint Approach" ... you are not alone in your success nor can you be successful without the support of others i.e. those of influence and all the people who embrace your work.

Line 4: The line of the advisor. A yielding line in an even line position. This line is appropriate. This line is where the individual in line 1 has reached a higher position. This is very favorable.
Line 1 and Line 4 correspond because both have the appropriate line in the given position.

Six in the fourth place means:
Complete approach.
No blame.

This line describes how you has reach a new position where you now have influence. The one who holds this position does not forget where the success came from. The person that holds this position is approachable by all those regardless of what the social-economic status. This person includes all and treats everyone with a correct approach (without arrogance). Also is never lost to that there is a great difference between what was and where one is now. Understanding the contrast
keeps your perspective and attitude balanced and correct such that success can be handled correctly. Through perseverance the right way from Line 1 to Line 4 you never forgets how to remain humble.

HEX 40: DELIVERANCE

The meaning of deliverance:
1. The act of being rescued or set free, salvation, liberation
2. A formal or authoritative utterance, A public expressed opinion or judgement, such as a verdict of a jury
3. The act of delivering or the condition of being delivered.
4. Recovery or preservation from loss or danger

Deliverance is not just coming to an end of something or finding a solution but being having been saved or redeemed formally. In this context deliverance for you is that you have been liberated by following your dreams. All the obstacles and difficulties that were in your way are removed thus creating a clear path to salvation/success.

Hex 40 describes you will reach a point where you find yourself come to a conclusion that will allow you to let go of any difficulties or problems. The stresses and challenges of your journey will fade away. It is time to settle in to a normal routine and not to be swept away by success.

You are on the verge of success because deliverance is only its beginning. If there are things that still need to be clarified or handled then do so and do so quickly. It is only through cleaning up any left over issues will success will come and deliverance will be complete.

I was seeking validation for what feels right for me but which involves a lot of fear, and frustrated intensity. I know that validation is not necessarily what one receives from Yi. You have also helped build upon Starflower’s interpretation so that I understand a bit more about the humility in relation to hex 19. And makes me a little bit teary, frankly because of the service aspect- I’m thinking of a teacher that I know who always supports careers of others through a non-profit- and really in any way that she can- and yet she is also a busy university professor- it makes not much difference to her whether you are enrolled in her school or not. She just loves her work and nurturing the work of all others- quality work itself has its own entitlement- not the ranks or even the official success. I’d like to be blooming in this way.
