Originally I asked how should I proceed to get the results I want and got

56.3 - > 35

"The journey encounters flames of war that burn down the inn. and the subject in state of losing the loyalty of its young servant, which is of cruelty and sternness."

I felt that perhaps this was a warning not to be arrogant, or that being too confident would lead to calamity, so I rephrased the question, How should I proceed in this situation in general and got:

50.3 -> 64. " The ears of the ding are altered so one's action is impeded. It just starts to rain and regret will be lessened. In the end there will be auspiciousness."

My ex partner seems to be going through some difficulties (because of his own actions) and seems to be vulnerable/weak. A few weeks ago I bought him a cup of coffee and told him to hang in there. He was greatly appreciative, and kept thanking me and smiling.

A part of me wants to swoop in and "save" him as well as resume our relationship, however there is a part of me that is afraid of getting sucked into his drama/problems. In past Iching readings I have done, the consensus seems to be to let this situation ride out and for justice to run its course.

My question is how should I proceed in this situation? The beginning hexagrams seem ominous but the transformed hexagram seems to suggest some hope? At least hexagram 35 does. 64 seems to be saying to "don't rush to finish this".

What do you all think?

Thanks in advance! :bows:

56.3: One forgets someone close thus loses them.

He's lost because you have abandoned him.

50.3: One may ask for help because it is difficult to search without the others.

You can decide to help him. 50.3 suggests that you have missed the point of 56.3

ETA:
There is nothing special about 64 in my opinion, his situation is unstable, hence 64.

64 - Instability

One must show patience and only act knowingly. They are cautious and inform their relatives.

Thank you very much taoscopy. That makes alot of sense. I'm trying to think of how to phrase the question so that the Iching will give me advice on how to approach him, or how to break the impasse.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. This was very very helpful. :bows:

Keep your distance, the traveler doesn't meddle with the affairs of the others.
Or you will lose what you've still left - an inn to stay, some temporary balance.

How should I proceed in this situation in general? 50.3 -> 64
He's going through changes, the ting cannot be used without the ears, the transition is not complete (64).

Wait a bit, some little support to keep his spirits high is nice. But to expand right now (35), with an army given by the king - is dangerous.

Thanks Ashteroid. That is the impression I got from previous readings. I see him going through hard times and my instinct is to jump in and save him. From my previous readings it felt like the Iching was advising me to let things unravel.

I hate to see him going through a hard time, but at the same time its good that he sees for himself why the people he is surrounding himself are bad for him. I guess its the case of having to learn the hard way. In the past when I have tried to reason with him, he takes it the wrong way and thinks I am trying to control him, which is why I just backed off and left him to his own devices.

Thank you again for the advice! I will definitely stay out of his way, but will try to be gently supportive when I can.

How should I proceed in this situation in general?

My experience with 50.3 was in a situation where
nothing I did mattered, no progress was possible, because the other party wasn't capable of appreciating the meal I was cooking up.I felt resentment at first, then realized I was the big dummy for trying to cook for them.
