Hello!
Some of you know I am an amateur equestrian. That is: I do not own horses, I rent them, go to competitions, etc. But I work 9-6, M-F in an office. I am not poor nor rich but I have no debts. My husband and I come from traditional families and we were taught not to show off but to keep a low profile.

The horse I'm renting is about to be sold. So, yesterday, the seller (a guy that's staying in our barn only for a few months), other grooms and the owner of the horse were talking that they will do the same offer to me first, as I've been riding the horse this year and invested a good amount of time and money on him.
My groom, who is my right hand and someone I trust blindly, told me that the seller and the other grooms started saying bad things about me: "what for are you offering the horse to her, she is a dry" (a pejorative expression in Spanish for someone that is poor "ser una seca"), "of course she will say no, she is a rat". (Again another pejorative expression for someone poor).

My groom heard all this and almost started to fight to save my honor. When he told me all this I told him we are not punching no-one, we are forgetting all those comments. But the truth is I am pretty hurt And I don't know how to react to such offense. I do want to do something but I don't know what.

So I asked the I Ching how to respond to these insults?
Hex 12.5 to 35
It seems that the yi is telling me to block these guys, I understand as not engaging in a fight but pretending they don't exist. Actually the yi says "Blocking it, non-people" pretend they are not there. Ignore them. These guys are not people they are a piece of wood, a saddle, you don't talk t to non-living things right?
I don't rally understand the line 5...
35 in the image says "a nobles own light shines in his character" so I understand I must maintain this "block" for a time.
As a note: 35 talks about breeding and multiplying horses ... it quite a direct image that might have a metaphorical meaning but hey it made my day :)

So, what do you think? Is my interpretation correct?

Thanks

Love

B

Ps. English is not my mother tongue si pls excuse me for any mistakes in my writing :)

Hi Bourbonist,

"How to respond to these insults?"

12.5 to 35 ~ Honor is the horse you want to ride.

I read it that the Yi is saying you should maintain your honor (line 5) and stay above the fray ~ as you have done, so far ~ regardless of whether you decide to buy the horse, or not ~ and good fortune will result.

Here's my advice:

First ~ go buy yourself some nice new riding clothes/tack ~ look like an owner.

Next ~ buy your superb groom a fine walking jacket.

Then ~ talk it up with your husband and decide what you'd like to do ~ buy, or rent some more?

In either case, ignore the insults ~ keep your standards high and carry on!

Good luck!

Thank you for your insights radio free will!
I already own a nice tack and dress the horse nicely. You read my mind with the jacket as I was thinking of getting a nice polo Tshirt to my groom (it's almost summer in this part of the world), he totally deserves that (and more). I will also remind him not to punch people!! Hehe :)
