You asked about the person, so I'd take the reference to be to the person's illness. Hexagram 18 is associated with illness. For line 2, Hilary has,

‘Ancestral mother’s corruption,
Does not allow constancy.

This might mean that the illness is caused by a genetic disposition or a lifestyle acquired from the mother and that it should not be overly treated. Hexagram 52 suggests health can be stabilized but not that the illness can be cured. Not feeling the body and not seeing the people seem especially inauspicious in the context of illness. I hope others give their interpretations.

I don't have much experience, so i'm really answering for my own benefit....i thew 18.2 today, so am already thinking about this hexagram...

One idea....18 says "work on what has been spoiled has supreme success" but your line says that what has been 'spoiled by the mother' needs to be handled gently (Wilhelm) Disease is always a delicate struggle right?

This makes me think that while sickness [associated with 18/decay] might be typically served by work or action, in this case perhaps one shouldn't work to achieve drastic results. And pocossin makes me think that genetically influenced illness, falls in the realm of mother nature. Isn't it always fruitless to work against mother nature? Our ancestral universal mother....

In wondering whether the oracles answer is about your actions or the friends illness....i would add that it's good to consult your intuition....I always ask 'what was your actual intention when you asked the question?'

52? Wilhelm has some interesting commentary on "Keeping Still" "in it's application to man, the hexagram turns upon the problem of achieving a quiet heart." That tranquility is what's being sought or developed perhaps...for you and your friend. Even if the stillness in this hexagram bodes poorly for an illness, there is still the opportunity for tranquility to grow from that stillness. That can be a beautiful thing.
