The topic is gaining employment.

What impact will removing this have on increasing that?
41.1.6 - 7

An idea keeps popping into my head, one that I can respond to by simply reducing the amount of information available about me prior to any potential interview. Not because I wish to mislead a potential employer, more so that I can reduce the possibility of negative bias at the outset. I hate this kind of thinking, yet ignoring the possibility seems naive given all the various experiences I have lived through.

In general I agree with and have been considering everything in the reading. It's very similar to a conversation I had earlier in the day that lead me to seriously consider what I am proposing to do, but I don't yet see how it relates to my question.

Any ideas?

Yes - I know exactly what you mean - and whenever I get a change to hex 7 I sense it is telling me to wait in the shadows - preparing thinking more than saying or doing. In relation to your question I think that there is a string sense that you should keep something back and not reveal all prior to an interview. I think the word Army for 7 is not good as it implies action - I see it more as an army in waiting -watching and thinking how best to go forward ...but they may never need to rather like the information you will keep if needed
In my experience too where I get a bottom and top moving line the setting of the question moves to how I should deal with it in the change hexagram
Hope this helps

It does help, thanks Butterfly Spider. Hex 7 was a bit of a mystery to me. Now in the context of this question - an army waiting in reserve - makes total sense. Mobilising the whole army at the beginning, before knowing the terrain or even identifying the target, now seems ridiculous to me. I was previously unable to picture the situation from such a perspective.

I have been getting hex 7 a lot lately... ;) I might go back over those readings now, see what else I can pick up. The lines 1 & 6 in 41 are what, interestingly, made it possible for me to arrive at the idea of not laying all my cards on the table before absolutely necessary. I guess this reading is saying, yep, and here's why/under what circumstances/how such an action might play out...

I just went over the transitional method for this reading and the hidden line 4.6 says:

Nine at the top means:
In punishing folly
It does not further one
To commit transgressions.
The only thing that furthers
Is to prevent transgressions.

That's precisely my intention - rather than trying to determine whether negative bias exists or is causing an issue for me, it's better to take steps to remove it from the equation altogether.

Update: I did not proceed with my idea at the time, however today I received the same reading when asking for an advice on how to proceed with a business negotiation. This negotiation was with someone with whom I have had mixed but often unexpectedly disappointing outcomes in the past, so it's risky from that perspective, but great for sharpening one's skills. The devil you know...

So 41.1.6 - 7

The way it played out was... We set all kinds of boundaries before we began negotiating, kind of mutual expression of fears, concerns, unwillingness to go over old ground, willingness to reach a mutually satisfying agreement.

He proposed a figure that was much less than half of what I expected. I gave him the details of how I would calculate it based on my standard hourly rate, then advised that it was obvious that I would need to apply a discount and he needed to decide how much of discount would bring the figure within his budget. He asked me to produce a lower figure. I calculated 50% of the difference between his figure and my figure and started there. It's funny that at that point I already intuited where he would land.

He went off and spoke to his boss and sought approval before proposing a final figure, which was the exact amount I had told myself was the absolute minimum I wanted to get paid for the work. It's all approved. So we'll see how the actual task and payment pans out.

My interpretation for the reading was that things will be sorted quickly and that this was about coming together for the purpose of achieving a specific (mutually beneficial) goal - Hex 7.

Sun 41 speaks to me of diminishing surplus and augmenting deficits, kind of equalising the losses or sharing the risk, each to their own capacity to contribute to the final outcome. Sincerity is important.

Maintain a thrift or economy in the manner and style of our communication/negotiation. 41.1.

Ensure all parties have the opportunity to be enriched by the interaction and the outcome without the process being too hard/draining. 41.6.

In summary we both had to diminish in order to have the opportunity to draw increase towards us, each only to their capacity to do so.
