I haven't posted here in quite some time and am aware that I rejected "help" when it was offered to me because I am always reluctant to accept help. I never think I need it but this time, I do.

I've been under the weather (Literally! It's May and it snowed today!) for several days now and I'm diligent about taking my anti-depressant. I am not making enough money, bills are piling up, BF is being a jerk, car is on last legs and I feel like it is all going to hell. I am so unhappy with my life that I just want it to end but the Yi has told me that I'm not ready to leave yet, buck up and keep trying.

What would make my life happy? 49 Radical Change - no moving lines
What do I need to change in order to be happy? 48 The Well No moving lines

I have not a clue what to change about something that does not change except to accept what I cannot change. What a circle!

Is my use of the Yi Ching helping me to live a better life?

21.4 Constancy in hardship - good fortune I do keep plugging away but I haven't had much good fortune in quite a while. In fact I've had a series of expensive repairs to make on car & house and I'm quite strapped for money.

21.6 Cangue in punishment for not listening to good advice? Bitten by experience - yes, that would be me. Jaded would describe me to a Tee.

24 renewal - Reset. I do keep coming back and reading the posts here even though I do not comment or advise anyone, I am lurking almost daily, gleaning insights into the Yi and how others use it. I do not feel the need most times to share. I don't mean to be selfish, I simply feel that I do not have anything new to offer.

Now, I am seriously wondering if using the Yi helps me in my life and whether my understanding of what it says to me doesn't need to be reviewed with others who can stand back and tell me what I am unable to see for myself.

I am in a bad place emotionally and I can't seem to shake off the feeling that I am going down the tubes fast. The Yi has told me to seek a spiritual group to help me with my resistance to getting to the root of my problem (bad childhood - who's wasn't?)....

so, if anyone would care to interpret this reading, or even to do one of your own to tell me, is the Yi helping me to live a better life - because if it isn't, I think I should stop using it. Anyone?

If you abolish the past (49), then you will be happy. However, at this point, you have to maintain your position and not deteriorate (48); you must replenish yourself. Yes, the Yi helps your life. But you must bite down. If you are innocent, then you will be safe, even if confined as you are. If you bite down, invoke the law, be just, then you will make a return and fortune will smile on you. Hang in there, girl...

My impression is that you are happiest when you have a cause to fight for -- your place in the sun as the trigrams suggest. Bradford translates the name of this hexagram as "Seasonal Change" and neatly associates it with sloughing off the old and growing anew, so there are things you need to let go and things you need to cling to. I think you will be happier once you have sorted them out.

What do I need to change in order to be happy? 48 The Well No moving lines.

48 means that you should help others to get happy. Be the well, and give others what they want. Since Yi suggests you be the well, you do have something to give.

Of course. However, the first thing is that you should listen. Bite through the hardship and persist for a long time. And then 49 will come in time and you will return to a toally new one.

Thank you for your reply icastes. The sun is shining this morning and the forecast is for 60 degrees today so that alone makes my mood lift considerably.

You say bite down and invoke the law. This gives me an image of "biting the bullet" and bearing the pain of something. My legal situation: I filed yesterday for divorce from a man I've been separated from for four years. I had to file this document as an indigent because I do not have the $70.00 filing fee. The judge will decide if I have to pay this fee because it is going to cost $200.00 to advertise in the paper that I am divorcing him. Money I also do not have at the moment. This is a futile and unnecessary expense because I know for a fact that he is out of the country, does not want to fight the divorce but papers cannot be served on him so, the law says I have to advertise four weeks in the newspaper. Arggghh. But, yes you are right, I need to have this episode from the past closed.
There is no emotional attachment to this man any longer. Our relationship failed because it began as one of convenience for both of us. We were good friends and still are. It was a business deal which was to allow him to become a citizen here and allow me to find a retirement home in his country but when we actually tried to live together, we found each other's personal habits to be intolerable to one another and separated amicably. The only thing that has kept me from divorcing him sooner is the money. So, at this point, it's just paperwork and waiting for the ad to run.

The other legal issue I have concerns the Student Loan people garnishing my wages making it almost impossible for me to live - and believe me, I live in a dump. The cheapest rent in the valley with a lovely little yard and a nice view of the Snake River. I'm quite content in this house - I can do to it whatever I want and I do not want to move. I quit my job and my boss pays me as a contractor so that we can avoid the garnishment but this is just a part time job and I was also drawing unemployment. Going self-employed cut me off unemployment altogether - loosing $600.00 per month. I was just barely getting by before that so I became very frightened about this.

I simply need to get more work cleaning houses or offices and continue to be self-employed rather than having the wages garnished. So, some people might look at this as evading the law? I suggested to the collection agency that I would be willing to work this debt off at some public service job but it seems that that option is not available to me. The other option is that I pay this debt and go live under the bridge with the crazy old lady who has Toret's Syndrome.

Any suggestions would be welcome. Again. Thank you for your reply. My caste for today is 58.2,5 > 51. Talk about it and communicate with others. I thank you for the opportunity.

You are very perceptive Tom. Thank you for your reply.

Yes, I am a fighter and I have several worthy causes that I support in various ways - mostly signing petitions and speaking up when I'm called on to do so. I am a good writer and have a novel half done. It's been moving along well and is, I think, going to be a good story. My boss, being a publisher, will help me to get it in print after the work is done so I can be optimistic about this one little unexploited talent that I was gifted with. I do enjoy the writing and the research.

Sorting out what to keep and what to throw away. I'm something of a packrat and I tend to accumulate some useless things both in my physical life and emotionally. Having been through 5 years of therapy while I was in school, I don't think I need to spend $ I don't have on more therapy but you are right about needing to sort this emotional thing out. I am still in a poor relationship with an immature man who ignores my needs. That's what I need to change and let go of.

The Yi tells me to wait and not to try to manipulate an outcome for this relationship because there is more in store for me than even I have imagined. So, I have shelved doing anything about Dave - creating an unsettled emotional state for myself in the process. I am waiting on him to sort out his dismal situation and watching rather impassively as he continues to fowl himself up. I have become rather emotionally detached from him, which to me, feels like it's going to end with me just walking away.

The Yi says that the state of our relationship is 30 - clinging. What should I do about Dave? 5 unchanging.

So, I am "hung-up' on this guy who doesn't appreciate me and I know I'm in an untenable situation with him but because I use the Yi to ask about the future as well as the present. I am waiting for something to happen that will change things in this relationship one way or another. I am not in charge here. This is probably what prompted me to ask if the Yi is helping me in life because I can't seem to go ahead and fully commit or break it off completely with him either. This has been going on for a year and a half and I am wanting it to end. Sometimes I don't care how it ends - I just want it to end and the Yi tells me to wait.

There is something in my attitude here that is keeping things from being resolved and I think that only time will bring it out. Waiting is one thing I find very hard to do. I want action! LOL.

Hello Wilma. Thank you for your good advice. The first thing is that I should listen. I hear that I should help others be happy and that I have something to give to others. I believe you. In order to receive, we must first give and I am very generous when I am allowed to be. But, I am also aware of there being times when I should not be so giving and let the person before me work out their own situation. That too is giving, I think.

Bite through the hardship and persist for a long time. Yes, when I wrote the original post yesterday, I was very weary. When things get too hard for me, I have a tendency to want to quit - run away - but, there's nowhere to run and nowhere to hide and bad as I hate to admit it, I think I just needed a little encouragement, which you have been generous in providing. Thank you.

I meet each Tuesday with a group of women to play cards. I also received encouragement from these friends, who also tell me that I have a lot to give and not to give up. I have said more here today than I have said to anyone in months. Guess it was just time for me to break out of my lonely little shell and ask for some human contact. Thanks for being there!
