I recieved 29 > 26 in answer to a question about helping me to better understand the dynamics of a situation. This brings me back to the issue of what to do with multiple changing lines (yes, I know there are many theories out there, and I need to listen to my intuition!!!) and wow -- this 29.1.3.5.6 > 26 business is something hot.

Has anyone received this? I'm not looking for advice about the situation, but I do hope to learn and gain some understanding about the reading. My only reaction is WHOO, there is alot going on here. I already knew that, of course, and what I was hoping for by consulting Yi was some deeper understanding of the specifics within the storm.

Blessings,
Malka

I usually stick to the theory "one moving line, one alternative line of action".

The only lines which I would follow here are line 5 and perahps 3, 1 and 3 are advices against going or falling into the abyss, in line 6, correct me if I am wrong, you already have fallen in a trap.

In line 3 you could also find some temporary resting place, could suggest taking some pause.

In this case, of course, seems that the moving lines are more hints against possible actions, more than chances of doing something.

tough situation, good luck

Hi Malka

There preferred response here, as Chris Lofting would put it, is hexagram 26, which is about building up the resources available in order to handle a situation. Hexagram 29 uses danger in order to teach us. Teaching is again apparent in hexagram 26 where the image speaks of acquainting ourselves with sayings and deeds of the past. The I Ching over and over again, in many ways and lines counsels us to act when the time is right, that is, two things at least. First, when we are in accord with the ways of heaven, and two, when we have built up the energy and material to "cross the waters," The second is particularly applicable here. Line one is a warning not to become lax. It is easy to put things off, to wait until the last minute. To say, "well things are not so bad after all." When we do so, we miss the teachings of the sage, of the yi, which tells us in hexagram 26 that we should practice chariot driving daily. To miss a day is to put ourselves behind in our schedule, and weakens us just that much more. Line one is about repetition, and it is only through repetition that we make the lessons our own. Line three tells us that we should not act until we have built up the requisite strength, a common theme not only in this reading, but in the I Ching as a whole. When line 3 changes, we have 48, the well. This tells us the answer is not without, in action, but within, in contemplation. When one and three change, we have hexagram 5 which teaches that we must nourish ourselves in order to gain the strength for an advance later on. Line 5 tells us to use the principle of non resistance. This is similar to hexagram 2, and the upper trigram is K'un when this changes. This line changes to hexagram 7 which tells us to find our strength within, which once again relates to building up the energy for a later advance. Line six carries the same message. It is not possible to act now. Shut in prison walls means we can only act within. We must contemplate. with the change we have hexagram 59 which tells us to slowly and gradually dissolve the blockages. Only until then can we act. This reading has a lot to do with timing. With knowing when we are ready to act.

Gene and Pargenton,
Thanks for the thoughtful words. It maybe that I didn't follow the advice so closely, and avoid certain lines of development. Now the situation is full of tension (well, the tensionw a already there, but I've brought it all to the surface!) Timing was a factor here, and I didn't do a good job of lsitening to the whole situation, and instead listening to my mind chatter. Unfortunate.

I asked about the outcome of my recent choices and received 47.1 > 58

Ouch. The situation is difficult (line, and how it feels to me in real life) and yet I've come to view 47 in a very positive light, especially because of all the potential, and the roots! Going deeper in a situation, even being forces to go deeper has to be OK. Yes?

Hi Malka,
it's difficult to see 47.1 in a positive light, but we can try to understand some aspects of the situation and maybe help to overcome it.

It's interesting that from the present situation of an exhausted lake, situation that should last for a while, sorry, there should be a development towards two lakes (58), so, there will be water in the lake after the three years !

47.1
You feel punished and hurt, and in a very negative mood, and alone as well.

From Bradford's matrix translation:
47.1x 象Xiao Xiang (Fan Yao 58.1: responsive joy, promising)
S ru4 入 going
yu2 于 into
you1 幽 ^ (of) gloom
gu3 谷 (the) valley v

* you1 幽 (the) gloom 55.4x
bu4 不5379 02.2 without, with no; has no; lacks; devoid of "
ming2 明4534 17.4 clarity, light, vision, intelligence "

Maybe there is a hint here, that is you are entering the valley of gloom without intelligence, i.e. the key problem is the state of your mind, do something for your negative emotions, do not let them go wild, three symbolic years from now there will be water in the lake, understand the situation and try to accept it without falling in depression .

Yes, you are correct! But the cycle lasted more like 15 hours, not three years. The 47.1 was all me, me, me! I was the one coming from a negative place, and I needed to get real about it. As soon as I did, and then discussed this with the other person involved (58 is about communication also, yes?) -- wham! There we were, two lakes being joyous and happy. The gloom might have lasted longer if I didn't take action. Good work if I do say so myself!
