Since August of last year, I have been embroiled in a legal battle. The issue has been back and forth; deals offered, rejected, amended, then offered again. I have been engaged with a dialogue with the Yi that reflects the changes in the situation and have now come to a final question:

What will be the result if, after everything is set (pretrials, jury selection, and the trial proper), I commit to taking my case to trial?

The Yi answered with 58.5>54

I'm not sure how to take Hexagram 58, The Joyous. The general feel of 58 is positive (i.e., "THE JOYOUS. Success. / Perseverance is favorable.), but the Nine at the fifth place confuses me. I definitely understand that I am being confronted with dangerous elements, but how can comprehending the danger more fully help protect myself? I have read up on the legal precedents, but I'm not the one who get's to argue them.

The relating figure is a bit unclear to me. Am I the young girl who is taking the initiative when clearly I should not? I can definitely see how this represents my mind set, sort of, but I'm not sure. I haven't been taking the initiative on this at all.

I also asked another question that is important for this situation: what if I accept the ADA's deal?

I got Hexagram 40 unchanging. This answer seems pretty obvious, but the fines and community service feel far from Deliverance.

Please help. My understanding of my readings is incomplete. I could really use any and all of the wisdom the people on this forum can bring to bear. I'm pretty scared; this decision could make or break my future. My lawyer has made it clear that either option is quite viable; he just worries that a jury is very unreliable, even if you're innocent.

Basicly I can't help You but quote Kerson Huang on hex. 58, fifth nine:

"It is dangerous to push the abused too far. Curb your demands." (his advice)

Neither hexagram suggests a person in a dominant position. Take the deal. Nor is the line text auspicious for a trial.

Wilhelm: Sincerity toward disintegrating influences is dangerous.

Hatcher:
Trusting in the unsustainable
There will be struggles

Who and what are the disintegrating influence(s) in this soupy mess? 54 can show that you are not on your own turf, which your attorney has also pointed out. Or, is the disintegrating influence your own sense of futility or persecution? The question is not whether the fines and community service feel far from deliverance, but rather are they just? 40 states, if there's something to be done, do it; if not, let it go. I think this answer must come from your own conscience and sense of justice.

Possibility of contact with people who can make things unfavourable for you. Not much power/influence from your part either.

Hex 40 un - Take the deal to bring this matter to conclusion, so you do whatever needs doing and can move on with your life.
