I asked the Yi, "Show me the relationship between x and z" and received, 39.1.2.3.5>19.

I am of course interested in what these lines mean in conjunction to the question, but my question for you all is; with so many moving lines, do you read the lines or the lines that did not come up? And why?

I am struggling with when to read, what to read and what not to read. By what I have read, I would think that lines 4 and 6 should be read. Yet, I see different people do different things. So please, offer you interpretation of the reading and try to explain why you took the lines that you used for your consideration.

I know that's a tall order, just want to understand what to do in many changing lines. :bows:

Are you asking about a relationship that is outside of one that involves yourself?

I find and feel that when asking questions to yi, it always points back to me. Not really as a fortune telling device, but more as "you are here, this is what's happening, and these are the things you can do to change for the better or to have success"
I too, at times have asked of others feelings or relationships. Sometimes out of curiousity of what the answer would be, sometimes as temptation of wishing ot was a fortune telling device. But without fail it points back to me.

With that said,
39 is someone limping.
Line 1: the person limping should go forward, there's a good future ahead.
Line 2: person limping is not the cause, they should do what they can.
Line 3: person limping should examine themselves, wants, needs, desires
19 is approaching/overseeing/opportunity
Determination and perserverance helps us to attain success

This is what I got out of the reading. Maybe others will have better insight for you. I look at many books and sites. Hope it helps some. :)

No. This readong does not involve myself, Cosmic Delight. I know that is a no-no, but it was done out of curiosity.

Blue Angel- Your interpretation sounds like the Yi threw the question back at myself and described where I'm at. Which is interesting. Would you explain why you read the lines that came about versus the lines that did not, with so many lines? I'm intereted in what method any why people read the way the do with many moving lines.

Well first, I forgot line 5... which seems to say, someone will come to aid, have no fear, you will have strength.
Many people read differently. I guess its whatever works best for you. What you feel pertains to you, or rings a bell. Some read all the lines that change, and both hexagrams regardless of how many. Some read all of the lines regardless if they changed or not just to get a better understanding of the hexagrams. And many say it is only when one line changes that you read the line with the resulting hexagram. Many say when there are so many changing lines you should only read the resulting hexagram. Some read the top hexagram along with the bottom as one sentence. For 39 and 19 would be something like the limping one is approaching... I wonder if there is a "right" way. Or do we just stay open to all ideas and advice and follow what rings true for ourselves. Which to me is the tao. Not sure if I make sense or answer your question. :)

That makes perfect sense! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I was confused as to whether it was a "written" rule that I was missing or a personal preference. It is more about what rings true personally to the hexes. However the message comes across is what the message actually is.

Again, thank you. What you shared with me now makes this less rigid for me and more comfortable.
